OC Blows

After three years of diving nothing but rebreathers, I made 4 dives last week on conventional single-cylinder scuba. The dives were no deeper than 84 feet, following a typical tropical wall dive profile (ie: a drop down to about 60 feet, then the max depth for a few minutes, then back up to about 60 feet for about 20 minutes, then 30 feet for about 30 minutes) breathing air (normoxic nitrox). No current or surge to speak of, no required decompression stops, no excertion at all, really. (Just that nonsense of rising each time you inhale!?!?!)

After each of the days of diving I was completely 'knackered' and had to retire to my stateroom for an afternoon nap.

I then remembered that this is how I often used to feel after a day of diving in the OC/Air era!

Contrast this with a week of diving 3 or more hours a day on the CCR then going out to dinner, drinking, etc, then being up before 5 am the next day and feeling great.

It is no wonder why the public is staying away from conventional scuba diving in droves!
