Monitoring ppO2 in Very Low Viz.

I haven't come across this yet myself, but how have people faired monitoring their ppO2 in very low viz?

Is it possible for the viz to get so bad that you can't see your displays at all? Or (as with my backlit displays on the KISS) if you put it in contact with your mask then you should be able to read it.

How about with a HUD?

Cheers,
Janos

Tried this.
Put a plastic bag arround your hanset full of clear water. Put your mask agains the pastic bag and you can see them for sure.

Even in the thickest mud Ive still been able to see my hud(s)

Ive had a harder time making out the fine details (numbers) on my displays at times without putting them on my mask - but on long dives (6+ hours) i find my vision goes bad anyway towards the end

Re: Monitoring ppO2 in Very Low Viz.

In the UK, some cave divers carry a small piece of perspex/lexan rod to put over gauges so they can read the SPG. The same could be done with the KISS displays. It's something that has concerned me as I use my KISS mostly for cave diving. Having to exit blind takes on a bigger implication if you are on a mCCR. Sure it's important on any Rebreather but even more so on a KISS because your eyes are essentially what feeds the cell input to the ppO2 controller (your brain). I started a thread a while ago on blind exits from caves on CCR, it's in the archive somewhere. I've been in water so bad that I have been unable to read my displays. Last time was in the entrance to a cave in France. I couldn't see anything, even with the backlights, even with 18W HID. I was breathing hard so I decided to take a chance, flush with O2 and drop into the clear water inside the cave below where I could sort it out. Maybe it wasn't the brightest, I could have gone open loop or even switched to the DSV to OC (well in theory, if my 2nd stage worked ). In open water, I've always ever been able to find clear water, or at least a bit of relief where you can see something.

Re: Monitoring ppO2 in Very Low Viz.

I would think that a HUD would be absolutely required if diving in low viz. Even in terrible viz, LED colors should be visable, right?

The hud works even in a white clay siltout.
