Servicing costs...

£60 for a service and £120 for a new one? This is something I have a problem with. I know that it takes time and parts to service a 1st stage, so I'm not quibbling about the cost of the service, I'm thinking more about the value of having it done at all!

Now, knowing that most Rebreather divers are fairly good at fettling, with these prices, what do others do? Wait two service intervals and buy a new valve? Service it themselves?

For myself, I keep service kits for my regulators and service my own (£12.50), but only if they show signs of IP creep.

Re: Servicing costs...

I guess everyone will be different but for me it was either learn how to service it(fix the broken bit) or dont go diving the next day.As the lds would be no help at all.I have always tried to keep spares on hand for most dive related stuff.

Re: Servicing costs...

I have service kits for my regs and do service them myself. I don`t fix/open anything that is not showing problems. So I don`t open them yearly. All my 1st stages are Apeks DS4 or DST and 2nd are ATX/TX-40/50.

I also do the service myself.
But I do service the regs about once a year, since small amount of oil/grease/"dirt" will accumulate over the time, but I do not use a new service kit every time (instead I just clean the old o-rings and seats).
