If it happens, it won't be for a couple of months though. Then I'll be looking for some dive spots as well and, apparently, the best routes for the several hour drive I'll face to get wet. --Paul |

Yeah I know it. I've been told there are a couple of lakes not too far away, and I tend to jump into just about any puddle there is when I need to get wet. Of course, the Riverwalk wouldn't entice me beyond diving into a few of the bars.![]() Move into almost the heart of Texas is bad news for a diver, but the good news is you are a lot closer to Cozumel and Cancun (Yucatan area). If it happens, my diving would more than likely focus on Mexico, Central America, and the Gulf (when I suck it up and do the 5 hour drives). The bright side is, if all goes well, I'll get a bit more disposable income and, more importantly, more free time to get out and dive more! ![]() Last edited by onetime : 9th August 2006 at 16:00. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Again Rebreather Divers In South Texas???? Hey, I live in this neighborhood- hehehhe ![]() I am sorry but not to sure where in South Texas you are located? Out of Houston contact Eric at Oceanic Ventures, Inc. Phone: 713-523-DIVE (IANTD rebreather facility.) I know they have a few things going on this summer. Rigdiver- Bill dives out of this neighborhood. American Technical Divers. South Padre- http://www.divesouthpadre.com/ I am not positive but check with Tim. There was a PRISM training session here a few years ago. Depending on how you feel about spear fishing I would check with spearboard. They have a dedicated section to diving in the Texas Gulf diving. This could put you out on a private boat and it gets you away from the OW types. Another option would be to contact Gulf Diving LLC. http://www.gulf-diving.com/ This is a charter boat and they have about two technical trips a year and they might allow you to sign up for that. Contact them directly! This is out of Freeport/Houston area. They mainly do the Texas Flower Gardens- 1hour dive, 100ft foot, 32 % nitrox. But it has been one of my favorite dive sites recently- 110 miles of shore. You will probably fall into the technical category but I expect them to allow rebreather divers in the next few years. Howard Hall used this boat not too long ago for video of coral spawning. Texas Flower Gardens are some of the healthies areas for coral. Minus Katrina crap floating through. On the quiet there are a few things happening here in Texas. Lake Amistead has the Good Enough Springs project ongoing- they expect a major dive this year depending on the aquifer. 400ft plus dive. We have a few lakes but they are not deep enough and those that are the vis SUCKS below 110ft, I can attest to that. They are sinking the old Texas A&M boat in south Texas waters in the next few years and she is BIG. YEA! Florida is 12hours from Dallas- so that is a viable drive if you are dragging dive gear. That puts you on the big “o” easy. Cozumel Mexico is 2-1/2 hour flight from Dallas- You should be able to do that easy. Also a lot of people seem to be replacing Cozumel with Belize. So travel is hot, and easy access. I am hoping that the Sea of Cortez is going to open up more and we might see more development. If not then just use the Nautilus for access. If I can help just yell at me. Also check out the goggle map for people’s location in refrence to you. Andrew

Andrew Hi fellas, Tim O'Leary is a very experienced CCR diver and head of Naui Tec. He does indeed own a dive shop and a Prism CCR. I did my Tmix training with him in Roatan and he told me there were lots of good dives in the South Padre area-wrecks/oil rigs. I'd bet he'd be happy to have some CCR company. -Andy |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Again Rebreather Divers In South Texas???? John; Tim O'leary can take care of you in South Texas. There are plenty of stores and day operators from So. Padre all the way up the coast to Sabine Pass. Check out www.fatboyscuba.com for a list of boat operators. There are rigs(~4,000) reefs and wrecks in the Gulf of Mexico. The farther W and S the clearer the water and the quicker it becomes deeper. Most concentration of rigs off the upper coast/LA. August and Sept. are the best months. Cousteau called the rigs "Iron Reefs." I call them the Cathedrals of the Sea. Bill |
