Or have you been accussed of carrying a weopon (stangling device) and had it confuscated? Going through Dubai airport, they wanted to take my spools (stainless), tank pressure gauge, and a few other items. They said the pressure gauge could be used as a weapon. LOL...he11, ANYTHING can be used as a weapon. Duh. I eventually talked them into letting me go through. I was actually very surprised. However, I also had my back plate/wing and all other essential dive gear in a carry-on. It was pretty obvious I was a diver. So, in a checked duffel bag, I send the "terrorist gear". lol -stainless steel spools -tank checker pressure gauge -knife -lighter (for emergency/survival cannister) -sheers -tools (wrenches, screwdriver, screwdriver bits, etc. They don't like these either.) -lead weight (I was going to be traveling for a long time and wanted my own weight. Lead weight will trigger a thorough search as well because it's so dense. Put it in the checked bag unless you are close to being overweight. I have never known anyone get weight checked for their carry-on bag.) Richard

![]() | Re: Reels and Hand-luggage Cheers, for that. Maybe I'll keep the reels in the hold. Don't really want the hassle. |

Never under any circumstances when a really annoying stupid arse airport security guy who has just told you that not only can your reel be a weapon but your USB camera cable could also be a weapon (they can be used to strangle someone)- never should you loose your temper and place your hands warmly around said security mans throat whilst squeezing gently and telling him that your hands can also be used for strangling and should they not also be banned from the cabin? He was, needless to say, quite surprised. My only defense was a) he was rather an annoying chap, b) I was sick with fever, d) Typhoon had cut diving trip short and er e) I was in a bad mood... Fortunately you can get away with being an ass in many parts of SE Asia. Can imagine what would have happened if I d done that in the US, Id likely have ended up being someone's bitch for the night ![]()

That'd also depend on your skin color as well... ![]() Having different skin color could be used as the advantage in some circumstances, but also having disadvantages too (i.e. "skin tax"). For example, in Singapore, my wife always had to pay 50% more than I whenever she shops at places where there is never a price tag on the merchandise... ![]()
