The backmounted BOB is out of the way, with controls in the 'usual', instinctive places. It is obviously quicker to deploy and has less impact on sideways trim ('roll') but does impact on 'pitch'. The impact is constant though and correct weighting can deal with this. The sidemounted BOB (aka 'Ironing Board') is clearly having an impact on my pitch (albeit some of this was from going up the slope), but also roll. The buoyancy varies with depth and whilst smooth, the effect on trim isn't as constant (maybe side-mount users could say how big an effect this is for them?). However, you can hand it off/ditch it and all the controls are right there in front of your face - a big advantage. *('Ironically' would have fitted better, but I think would have been a 'pun too far'... )

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Considering a Bail-out rebreather Great Article! A new design of twin setup is still in my mind. How about calling Mr Jochen Hasenmayer in Germany? This guy (speleo legend) has used a custom made twin Rebreather back at 1981 (started serious projects at 1965). The unit name was STR-80 and it was used with absolute success. I fell into this unit reading Bojanic's book and my googling had very poor results. It is very sad that this unit is also not mentioned in Rebreather World and bech's site as well. Innovation is fine but history can be very handy. So fire your searches guys! Last edited by fin : 2nd September 2007 at 12:24. |

There are also the Isler dives in the Doux De Coly using triplicate redundancy but again information sources are not great on the full picture. Regards AnneMarie
