| Classic KISS No. 226 ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | I'm working in the US this week, and I've just bought myself a new Luxfer S006 to replace my bulky 1.5 ltr argon bottle. What the best way to fly home with this bottle. Is it enough to demonstrate that the valve is open and the check in counter, or do i need to remove the pillar valve? Advice and recommendations please. Cheers Rich

My experience (many times from Chicago O'hare and different other US airports): Remove the valve completely from the tank, put it on top in the check luggage so they see it first when they inspect the luggage, write "scuba cylinder - empty - no gas" on a piece of tape and stick it to the tank. Stay around to answer any questions the guy could have.Advice and recommendations please. Cheers Rich Even though, TSA stated that you could put it in your carry-on, do not. Last time I did, they had me run all around the airport to get a letter from the airline stating that they accept it. Best Philippe |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Taking tanks out of the US I will be very surprised if the TSA will allow you to get on the plane in the US without completely removing the valve from the tank. Also, they will be very hesitant to allow you to carry it on. Better to check it, if you have weight capacity available. Good luck ![]() |

| Southern Monkey Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Taking tanks out of the US Remove the valve. There is a report recently where a diver lost his Rebreather cylinder because it had the valve in it and the inspector replaced it with a note saying that they could not inspect it therefore it would be disposed of. If it is hard to inspect an item should they let it through? Or employ an IDEST qualified individual just in case? |
