Trip report on the Yamashiro

Hi all,

Just a quick post to let you know that we managed to dive on the japanese Battleship HIJMS Yamashiro sunk with her sistership the HIJMS Fuso in the Philippines.

People normally speak about the size or the beauty of a shipwreck. For me, amongst all the wrecks I explored in the last 20 years, the Yamashiro is clearly the most unfriendly wreck: extreme depth (195m on the bottom), ripping current, bad sea condition, total darkeness, extremely remote location, logistical nightmare, lack of recompression chamber, etc.

Ah Cedric you make me so jealous that I wasnt with you on this one.

Theres just something expeditions which makes them so much fun - maybe its all the challenges not just the diving ones and overcoming them.

Sounds like this one was a real challenge - I can well imagine the conditions. That makes it even more of an achievement

Well done to you all.

Now as Jerome so correctly states - lets stick to the deep caves! - deep wrecks are much harder work and more dangerous

PS Ill see you guys tommorrow I land at 3pm should be at Subic by 5:30pm
How much sorb do you guys have left over? Im going to need maybe 10kg for the week. I can bring some if needed (and pay excess) but if you have plenty no point.

Congratulations to all seems like the trip was quite eventful glad you fulfilled the objective after all that planning and preparation. I look forward to chatting about the experience are you able to share any info on the schedule was it
VPM B/E with added conservatism? Or was it modified specifically for the dive.

Congratulations Cedric, very well done! Glad you made it back in good shape, sounds like you had just enough luck and plenty of good support.
Very ominous all those different failures/problems, it must have been incredibly spooky being down there. You've got more guts than most.
Thanks very much for the report, and of course I'm curious about a few things-
Did you run out of O2 from the heavy exertion or was it just that long of a dive? I was assuming that you had at least 19cuft cyls onboard and that you pumped them up pretty high...
Was the current any less on the bottom? Were you able to find an area out of the current and free swim or did you have to pull yourself along over the wreck?

More likely it was the low pressure O2 fills they were forced to use because 'someone' wasnt there with his booster

Glad it worked out cos I would have felt a bit guilty otherwise
