Re: How tight to pack your scrubber?

Having had a classic inspo I would be careful of packing the canister too hard for fear of breaking the canister as it's soooo well made

Re: How tight to pack your scrubber?

I emptied my scrubber out after it had been packed by my instructor.

I then counted the individual granules, and made a note of how many were in the scrubber.

I then count them individually back in when i put fresh lime in.
It takes about 232 hours to do and in an Inspo there are 403487932 granules.

On a serious note

Tap it pack it and unwrap it, (to quote Terry's Chocolate Oranges).

there is a difference between force packing and tightening it down after it settles.. You can pack the classic like a rock without stressing the cartridge.

if your use the screw to pack it down the you could damage the cartridge..

Re: How tight to pack your scrubber?

Did my KISS Mod 1 course last month with 2 guys doing cross-over to the Meg after 5-6 years on the KISS. I was a little surprised at their recommendation.

They urged me to pack the Classic KISS by placing a roll of gaffer tape on the top of the mesh and pressing down while tapping. It does allow more to be packed in. I have a fill mark felt-tipped on the inside of the canister to indicate how far to fill.

I am not sure quite how much more should be packed in this way. Doesn't the slime expand slightly due to moisture and absorption ?

I generally don't do the 1/3, 2/3 treatment as I find it just bounces the granules around without settling them. I fill to about 3/4 before doing some tapping, then fill it and tap for a minute or some before applying the gaffer tape treatment.

Re: How tight to pack your scrubber?

this is the way I do it.

Fill 'er up. Pat, pat, turn, turn, pat, pat, turn, turn.
Repeat until the screw slows down.
then take off the spider and add a bit more sorb.
repeat until the screw slows again.
All done, now drink beer.

Smile Re: How tight to pack your scrubber?

I fill the scrubber up to the fill mark visually, then I use the supplied tool to check the level and add/remove 'lime as necessary, the pressure plate is then screwed down as per the instructions, all done.

Re: How tight to pack your scrubber?

Pretty tight.

To fill my classic kiss scrubber, I poor in the lime, giving it a bit of a slap around when 1/3 and 2/3 full. Then fill to the brim. I then take my oxygen clean rubber mallet [1] which I bought especially for the purpose and hit the sides a few times to settle it down to the fill line.

I've opened it up after a bit of driving to see whether it had settled or not and it was still tight so I'm happy.

Janos

[1] - Very important that it's O2 clean.

Re: How tight to pack your scrubber?

I pack my Classic Kiss scrubber pretty tight - fill 1/3, tap it a bit, fill 2/3, tap a bit, top up put top mesh on and tap whilst pressing down until it won't go down further then adjust level to my mark on the canister and tap again. when I offer it up to the scrubber head there is 2-3mm gap which the draw bar pulls shut while I tap on the sides again. This is for fine-grain sofnolime.
I did once overdo the packing with spherasorb and got loads of dust sludge after the dive, but it was really tight.
