Re: Spare Masks

It's one of those things ... if you carry it you'll probably never need it.

I have one in the pocket of my drysuit that has a 1" loop around the strap so I can clip it into the pocket.

It shits me everytime I want to get my jump spool out of the same pocket...but I think I'll keep it in there after your account. You only needed one more thing to go wrong and it could have gotten real heavy.

Re: Spare Masks

The vast majority of my dives are cave dives....so I ALWAYS carry a spare mask. Scootering a kilometer or more to get out of a cave without a mask would not be fun...

I've only needed a spare mask once...and that was on a 90m wreck dive. My mask broke(when my dumb ass ran into something face first inside the wreck) at 25mins bottom time. The rubber skirt tore and it flooded. I switched to my backup, exited the wreck, and did my deco with no further incident.

Re: Spare Masks

I always carry a small frameless mask that can fit anywhere. The best place I find, to carry a spare mask, is round your neck.

Re: Spare Masks

90% of my dives are deco so i carry a spare mask in my pocket on my dry suit and back wards around my neck on the very occasional oversees deep dives in a wet suit.

I haven't had a mask break yet but a damaged seal on one dive led to repeated flooding and a switch to the back up on a 64m dive.

Re: Spare Masks

Spare mask lives in my waist belt pocket so there whether I'm drysuited or wet Its the same model as my main mask too.

Re: Spare Masks

Always carry one. In pocket at the back of waist strap so less likely to get broken.
I've never needed it but I had to let a buddy use it once after his was constanly flooding.
Didn't cost him too much in beer after the dive either...

Re: Spare Masks

Spare Mask lives in my dry suit pocket in this country and in the weight pouch on the Meg when diving with a wet suti cos I dont use any weight in them then so they are nice handy pockets to have....
