(My old spare mask died when I slipped on a hardboat and my deco stage landed on the thigh pocket- instant mask kit, glue not included )BEN

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Spare Masks I only carry a spare mask when I am cave diving solo. I put it inside my helmet (between the shell and the tubing). (by the way wearing a helmet eliminates the chance of the mask being dislodged). I am now convinced that I will carry a mask on every dive… |

![]() ![]() | Re: Spare Masks Always dive with one, haven't dived without one for years, at all depths, deco or not, regardless. As an aside how many people 'prepare' the spare mask before the dive i.e spit, gloop, whatever, to stop it fogging if you use it? I used mine once in cold water 'unprepared', instant fog, which while it was no way near as potentially disasterous as no mask at all it was a right royal pain having to clear it with water to see what I was doing! I prespit now, well most of the time .Dan |

Jumped in, swam over to shot and low and behold saw it floating on the edge of the viz (neoprene slap strap). Beautiful. ![]() I used to wear it under the hood to negate it getting kicked off, but its just to bloody cold in the winter.

I think the trunking was ducting for tumble-drier air. Only needed it once so far and that was on the surface before descent. Neil

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Spare Masks Steve, I can sympathise with the "only time I didn't havbe one I needd it" thanksfully on the surface after rolling in, mask came off and dropped into the inky murk. My helpful buddy handed me the worst mask in the world, but it was enough to go and find my original. I have one in my drysuit pocket, it is there all the time, I check it when I check my backups in there between dives and give it a spit, but in reality I can just wash the glass off every few minutes on ascent if I forgot. Once you're at 6 you can let it fog up! Only concern for me as a KISS diver is not being able to see displays, but from experience of trying to make out things underwater I reckon I could probably get by just about. But much better having a mask to stick on! Not done a dive in a wetsuit in a couple of years now I think, so no major worry there! Digs. |
