new oceanic rebreather

I heard some rumors last night that Oceanic are planning on launching a rebreather in October, in both SCR and CCR configurations both of which include a co2 monitor. has anyone else heard anything?

I have not heard anything in years about Oceanic introducing a Rebreather. The company does have the resources to do it. I will rattle the bushes and see.

Not real world I heard that it has been around in military circles for 3 or 4 years and that the launch price for the eCCR version would be pitched well under that of a vision Inspiration. hmmm roll on DEMA

If the Open Revolution (or something similar) is indeed happening, I'd say goodbye to OC diving forever... as long as I could afford to make the switch.

One of the things that irritate me about using OC is that I void warranty on my regs if I try to work on them myself. So, I need to spend $150 on annual service for the regs, no matter whether they really need it. Hypothetically speaking of course, how user-serviceable would the maybeOpenRevo be? Would I be forced to generate a revenue stream for exclusive dealers, just as I am now for my OC regs? Certainly, I wouldn't be trying to plug homebuilt O2 sensors into the unit, but at least I'd like to buy spares and make replacements myself without having to hit the shop (or mail the unit) every time something goes wrong.

The only other issue that might come up if this hypothetical eCCR were to come into existence, would be the "Save the Loony" section (slide #17) of this document:

At least part of the reasoning is admirable - people do dumb things - but I can't help but think an ulterior motive might be at work there. It sounds to me like DRM that preserves revenue for instructors. Why shouldn't someone be allowed to teach himself trimix on the unit? Why should he be required to pay instruction fees for it, no matter how good (or bad) the instructor is? The functionality would probably be built into the unit already, so the diver should be able to dive with trimix dil right away, and the unit would alert him if he made a bad.
