My DO finally sees the light!

For the last 12 months or so I have sat at the dive club banging on about rebreathers and how great they are (a bit premature as I haven't got one yet). Eight times out of ten I finish with "and thats why I want a KISS" to which my DO replies "but they look like they've been built in a shed".

Low and behold I get a phone call on sunday to say that he is back from his dive, is OK and that after diving with a boat full of KISS, INSPO and BORIS divers he wants a KISS.

It seems like rebreathers are going to inherit the earth and I need to get my skates on and buy one.

In case you wondering the other 2/10 times I finish my rant with "and thats why I want an inspo". I have a try dive pending to sort my head out.

It is a big decision. But, you will find that you are happy with your decision once you start diving your unit.

I would definitely recommend trying as many of them out as possible in the pool. While you can only tell so much from a pool dive, it sure did help me get a better feel for what i wanted. I do admire the KISS approach and don't think it's pure coincidence that there are 0 fatalities on them and then again, vision electronics for the evo or inspo sure are a dream to dive... either way, soon the transformation will be complete.

I think it's fairly normal, and comes from fear of the unknown. They understand the position they are in, and when these boxes come along, with lots of technical descriptions and a totally different way of working to what they're used to, a lot of DOs will find it easiest to brand them as death machines and avoid getting into the debate at all.

I found a lot of the doubters, if you want to call them that, were won over to curiousity once they tried the unit in the pool. I let them try it, and explained quickly how it works, and they understood and tried it out. I don't think they'll be rushing out to buy one, but if they do a few dives with me they'll probably accept that I'm not likely to die at any moment, and that it's not that complicated!
