![]() | Due to being away alot with work this year I have had more time to read what is going on than diving. I have noticed a lot lately there has been more moans and complaints about equipment failing or not working. What I am getting at is I have dived my inspo for 2 years with no major problems, ( only had a craked hand set ). Then moved over to the new HH but only had a few dives on this with no problems at all. All have been new kit. Basically this equipment is plug and play simple as that. Except for changing to the travel frame all is the same on my unit. I am not sure if a lot of the problems occuring are due to people trying to alter there equipment to much also playing around to much with there lecys. As they say a little knowledge is worse than no knowledge. I have seen people just passed there mod1 cse and they have completly sripped and changed the unit, people need to get used to it as it comes and alter it slowly. Like I say it may be me being lucky with my unit. Cheers Robprice |

The only "failures" I've had have been due to my own stupidity/carelessness or natural wear & tear (sensors, etc) apart from two problems due to the previous owner of my KISS not maintaining it (i.e. knackering the valve seat on the BOV and not replacing the spring on the KISS valve). Other than that my Rebreather has been more reliable than my OC kit. What I like about my KISS is that if anything does go tits on it then I can fix it generally with a trip to B&Q or Maplin.

Cheers Robprice Yep, it's just you.My "major problem list" with new diving equipment in the last six months includes: new HH: severe corrosion problems and other minor problems new compressor Bauer Junior II: problems with broken valve after six hours of operation, problems with switch unit (250 bar/330 bar) new VR3: flooded on dive 5 new Amphibico Phenom: arrived with broken mounting ring, vignetting, backlight function not working with Z1 My "minor problem list" includes: naaaah, that one is far too long But I'm happy to offer my services as "beta tester" to the diving industrie. If it works for me, it is bulletproof.Peter |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Is it just me ? Well, I was changing my KISS as soon as I finished MOD 1 but the problems for me started right out of the box (although I don't think I've complained about them). Problem 1: The little o-ring on the ADV stem came loose and had to be reglued. Problem 2: Handset #3 leaked from an improperly tightened fitting from the factory. The changes I made have caused some consternation here and there (a wing that was way oversized for the new profile being one such issue) but I'm not going to dive something in a less than ideal form. Especially if I can make some changes to make the unit work better for me. Since getting the unit I have swapped the original frame for one I designed myself. Turned out it added too much weight and in the wrong spots. Version two will be better (if I have it made) but until then I've made some other changes to accomplish the same without the added weight. From another post on why I decided to modify my unit: Quote: (Originally Posted by onetime) The first was a desire to get the canister closer to my back. The new frame brings it about 1" closer to me by eliminating the stock aluminum frame. This changes the center of gravity and makes me feel more integrated with the unit. Second was to allow for easier absorbent swaps. The typical frame doesn't allow the unit to be free standing when the canister is removed. Third was a desire to eliminate some stuff that I felt was a little unnecessary. By switching to a valves up configuration and switching the O2 from right to left I eliminated the manifold, a stainless steel hose, and a couple of Swagelock connectors that came stock with the unit. Fourth was a desire to mount different size bottles. The stock frame just didn't seem sturdy enough to back mount bailout. There is a pretty good chance I'll be taking the unit into caves and I'd like to have the option of back mounting rather than bail out hung as stage bottles (not sure that I'll like it back mounted but want to have the option). Fifth was a need to add another bottle for inflation gas. I know I could have gone the argon bottle type mount but kind of prefer the horizontal mounting under the unit that this frame allows. Sixth was to add a little weight since I dive dry 99% of the time. Yeah, yeah I know one of the greatest things about RBs is the weight savings but, to tell you the truth, the weight of big doubles never really bothered me. Switching to an Rebreather was more about the logistics of using OC in a bunch of the diving I do than it was about weight. There were a few other reasons involved but were minor enough that I can't recall them right now. |
