Hello kpalas, it's definitely true that CCRs are potentially more dangerous and can be more trouble. Although that also depends on your dive routines and the CCR you use, some are more easy to use than others. After filling my scrubber, calibrating, pos and neg test-45 minutes-I've got at least 6 hrs of diving ahead of me on the Prism and I can divide that time up anyway I want. I have not missed a dive yet. For me the advantages are many-better wildlife interactions, max flexable dive planning, warmer, moist breathing gas and ability to raise the PO2 decrease possibility of DCS, silence, no wasting of expensive HE. And as long as you think you have the discipline to keep complacency in it's place, you will likely find CCR diving enjoyable at any depth. I do and I won't go back to OC. And SCR is just as much trouble as CCR with diminshed benefits in every category mentioned above... Good luck, -Andy |
