| Highly amused!! Current Rebreather/s: | Ahahaha OMS gear was my favourite ranty topic a few years ago and BOY did it wind some people up, it was like catching fish on the net, just throw out a few hooks and wait for the bites ROFL!! Actually though OMS make a dual bladder wing as do some other manufacturers, I thought before about having some wing redundancy or a bigger wing as we never really think about how much extra bouyancy would be needed to get out with a flooded loop even if you switched to open circuit, a waterlogged loop is heavy!! As for parts laying around John, now you're talking!!! I am currently in a connector fest with the swagelock catalogue and also working on a few little secret projects which I can only share over beer ![]() When normal people that don't dive (civilians LOL) come to the house it can get very embarrassing!! As I said you haven't seen my bathroom!!

![]() | Quote: Be careful about teflon seats for ADVs I have a scary story for you I'll PM it. Not the right place for it, but having just replaced oring in my adv, and seen mention of this a couple of times now. What ****ing teflon seat?Mark |

| Highly amused!! Current Rebreather/s: | The older KISSes had a teflon seat, recently a diver with an older KISS had an ADV freeflow at 20m on ascent, on 10/50 diluent, PPO2 dropped and despite plenty of O2 and working O2 addition mechanism it was impossible for the diver to raise PPO2 to life sustaining levels for the ascent. The diver shut down dil but basically when the ADV free flowed the auto dump was venting even when it was fully closed, it vented so hard that the little rubber seat got dislodged, the O2 enters below the dump and the fresh O2 was venting out of the top, what could be pulled round the loop on inhale cycle was not enough to raise PPO2, OC bailout was deployed by the diver. The fix longer term was to strip the unit and modify the dump valve so that it can be shut down completely, dave thompson and bob howell made the same mod for Inspiration I believe. The exercise was repeated with defective ADV and the fault was found to be caused by the "lollipop" rising up and the edge of the black disk getting caught on the screw that holds the diaphragm plates in place due to a distorted diaphragm. This is the old teflon seat ADV and has a black plastic disk on the end of the rod. The current valve has a glued in o ring that can be replaced when it starts to leak, also the black disk was deleted (I don't know when, older KISSes may still have teflon seat) and a new diaphragm assembly used that allows the ADV stem to be dropped in place without removing the diaphragm. If you DO have the teflon seat valve and it is still working you can substitute the new diaphragm assembly and just leave out the disk on the end of the rod. General consensus is that the fix deployed as detailed above is not appropriate as the collar addition to the exhaust valve is still working with a soft, thin seal and is not recommended as a solid shutoff valve, although it WILL still vent on overpressure. Regards AnneMarie
