O2 & 8-12 in Florida (Keys & Pensacola)

Any recommendations on buying 44 lbs. tub of 8-12 in the Florida Keys. Possibly at one of those big dive markets on the overseas highway or Tavanier Dive Center. Also need 02 fills.

Also looking to get fills and 8-12 in Pensacola.

Dave,

I can't help you with the Keys, but here in Pensacola, Dive Pros is the only shop (to my knowledge) that carries sorb for rebreathers. I would recommend that you call then in advance of your trip to be sure that they have what you need.

They can also fill whatever gasses you need, including trimix.

Dive Pros in Pensacola has O2 and He on hand at all times. Benthic and I are currently the only CCR divers in Pensacola, however- so they don't stock sorb, but will be happy to bring it in for you- just give them some lead time (a week or 2 notice). Talk to Merrick VanLandingham- (850) 456-8845.

I was able to get O2 at Tavernier Dive Center about a year ago...
I'm not sure about the sorb though.

You really have to plan ahead to get sorb in the Keys...there are a couple shops that do Rebreather training on SCR's so they generally have sorb(but as I recall it's usually Sodasorb 4-8), but usually not much unless they have a big class coming up. Don't plan on getting O2 fills at any shop that doesn't do some kind of tech diving/training. I've had shops refuse to fill O2 down there just because they "never do straight O2"...even though they partial pressure mix nitrox.

My only recommendation is to call them a couple weeks out from your trip and find out if they can do it...and then be sure to check back with them shortly before you go. I assume you're flying down, otherwise you'd bring your own sorb....and probably flying into Miami. Worst case scenario, after you get in drive up to Lauderdale to Fill Express and get a keg of Sofnolime.
