Rebreather diving in the Middle East

I may be taking a job in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in the near future, and I'm wondering about availability of oxygen and sorb for my Meg in that area. I know there are several Rebreather divers here from the UAE, but what about Saudi and Bahrain?

Re: Rebreather diving in the Middle East

I was disappointed that I never received a response to this question....but I did get an answer through another(non Rebreather) venue.

For those that may be interested......it seems that there are no Rebreather divers in Saudi Arabia, and according to one of the instructors over there(he teaches through OC advanced trimix), rebreathers are illegal in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I have no idea why that would be the case, but it's the best information I have received thus far.

If I do end up over there(which seems less likely now), I may have to send my Meg over to a buddy of mine in the UAE for storage...and go there whenever I can to do some CCR diving.

Mike,

Sorry that you didn't get any response.

Eventhough I live in the UAE, I don't have any information regarding Rebreather-diving in Saudi thus didn't answer.

You have several options:

1) Keep the unit with a friend in Bahrain and drive across to dive it on the week-end. It is shallow around Bahrain however.

2) Keep the unit with a friend in UAE and come over to dive. The East coast of UAE is quite good for trimix diving. I have been busy this year with work so haven't dive too much as before, but that should change soon. Therefore, I could take you diving around UAE or introduce you to the local Rebreather divers. Sorb and O2 isn't a problem for the occasional visitors...

3) Diving around Oman is better than Bahrain but not as nice as UAE, if you have friends there.
