![]() | Hi All, Have you tried Betadyne, An over the counter medical anti bacterial/microbial scrub, the same stuff used in hospitals as a wound or pre-surgery prep. We use it exclusivly for the breathing loop (Hose assembly & Bags). the rest of the rig warm water. 10 to 1 consentration with warm tap water, after dive. The stuff is pretty inexpensive about ($8 for 8oz) good for 5 or 6 cleaning sessions & availible in drug stores & larger super markets. |

If you don;t care about #1, andyou can guarantee no residue (this requires alot of flushing) its an ok choice.. It still does not have a kill spectrumof manyof the others.. Wound cleaning is one think a breathing loop is a whole different story... Betadyne was rejected in the studyI pointed to mainly because the potential for diver reaction.. Some people react VIOLENTLY to betadyne...

![]() | I have been doing some investigation here in Australia re Virkon & Virkon S. It seems they are basically the same product, but Virkon is manufactured under far more stringent criteria, and thus is certified OK for human consumption. Virkon S on the other hand, whilst similar, is manufactured with NO SUCH QC PARAMETERS, and here in Australia, the T.G.A. ( Therapeutic Goods Association ) will go nuts if they believe Virkon S is being used in a human consumption situation. Virkon Tablets are now freely available here in Australia as of today - Through your local CCR Dealer via the newly appointed sole agent, Aqua Tech Australia. They are sold in a jar of 10 x 5 gm tablets for AUD$20 Regards Tony Davis |

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: Other Rebreather/s: | I was on a trip in the Galapagos back in the fall of 2003 and witnessed a very "Unlucky" ccr diver getting basted in Buddy Clean. Our group was at the airport and we all had to shift some items to balance luggage weight. A bottle of Buddy Clean was packed inside unluckies wetsuit. In transit 100% leaked out and soaked into the plush suit lining. Although it was rinsed before the dive unlucky ended up with a nasty chemical burn on his back, neck, and torso. What can we learn from this story. Find something that is a powder and is not damaging to the diver. Answer is Virkon packaged as "Be"-KLEEN for the watersports market not Virkon S. Virkon is completely approved by the EPA & the FDA. Virkon S although a similiar product it is not approved for human use or tested against human illnesses. Visit the following link for a great third party testing of disinfectants for human contact. http://www.silentdiving.com/beKLEEN.htm at the bottom of this page click the link to the Canadian Government Testing Report Knowledge is power. ![]() |

| In love with the big blue Current Rebreather/s: | Similar to Ada I don't clean mine very often and when I do I use window cleaner, the loop tastes clean after it LOL I once came back from a trip and left the rebreather in the garden for a week while I got on a plane to go to work, when I came back, I took the lungs into APD factory to have more buttons fitted and the technician was nearly sick as he said he cleaned the lungs and there were bugs and spiders in there! A nice bit of protein keeps you going on those long hangs ![]() ![]()
