Re: Evo Display Irregularity

Well, we made it up to the sunshine coast this weekend, and true to it's name it's a hell of a lot more sunny than seattle. So, warmth and sunshine did seem to provoke a more pronounced version of this spot, the exact size and place of the above descriptions, on both our evo screens at the same time. it didn't change with angle and was clearly not a polarizing effect of the plastic protective film on the screen. After noticing it we took special care to keep the screen turned away from the sun, which pretty much eliminated the issue. neither of us noticed this effect under water.

When we first noticed it, the spot was pronounced enough to make the read out in the effected area lighter and harder to read, suggesting pressure...in fact, pressing on it made it worse. So far i'm siding with the folks that say it's a heat expansion issue causing the plastic screen to bear down/buckle in a little bit on the Liquid crystal underneath. I'm assuming/hoping this has no long term consequences, but I'm very interested to hear if AP comes up with a resolution for this.

Hi John

My handset had it during a pool dive. It went away and havent seen it since. (Aprox 12 hours later.) Did APV recomend sending it back?

Re: Evo Display Irregularity

I did a little test and this what I discovered. After letting the display cooled down with the help of some ice the spot went away see pic #1. After the display came back to room temp 22C the spot reappeared see pic #2. This leads me to believe that the spot is temperature related and not UV related.

Angry Update re AP's answer

A quick update .I returned head to AP 2 weeks ago having been told that "No problem we know about that ,send it back & we'll sort it " .Brilliant I thought 4 week ban from diving anyway so plenty of time .I spoke to them late yesterday to be told that it has not been looked at yet as they are still "Investigating the cause" ! know I wouldn't mind but I had been led to believe that they already had a cure for it . So I'm now thinking of starting a sweepstake on when I might get it back

Re: Evo Display Irregularity

Last weekend bought a vision unit for my old 2001 classic inspiration. It was a hot day (~100-110 F) as I drove with it for about an hour and then parked the car for a few more hours in the shade with the windows open (its nice being out the the countryside where trust is a bit higher!). When I returned to the car I found the same spot mentioned by the original poster on the handset display. The spot disappeared after a few hours in cooler temperatures (~80-90 F). Is this normal? I haven't dived it yet and am wondering if I should return it.
