Yes, I understand. But supposedly, the film blocks 99% of the UV light (per the advertisement). Surely that should help...

Well it should do, I still think the idea of a little padded bag is good.

I'm of to get my sewing machine out

Since these kind of products are dirt cheap in the Middle-East, I simply bought a padded nylon camera bag for a few quid that fits to protect the display.

It has zipper so simple to don/doff, plus a velcro flap to make sure it stays closed.

Re: Evo Display Irregularity

Thanks all for your input. I suppose that the sun could be the source of the problem but we have not had allot of summer weather until recently and I have not been in the water for a couple of weeks. I will send the picture off to AP and see what they say. Thanks for the discussion

Re: Evo Display Irregularity

hi had exactly the same problem and in exactly the same spot and exactly the same size of "blob" (about the size of a 1 pence coin, i did my course in cold water in march (3 degrees ish) surface temp not much better! and then went home to my warmer climes ( canary islands) and the problem was noticed straight away, its definately due to heat and seeing as it is in exactly the same spot i think it is due to expansion of materials in the screen itself due to heat, and components lying under the screen not allowing expansion due to the exact same location, contacted the good people at ap and they are rectifying the problem as we speak, im dubious as to the uv light being the problem as all dive computers have lcd screens, and some with matrix type screens (owner of 2 vr3s one colour and one monochrome) and they never seem to have a problem in the sunlight also this would be a problem acrosss the screen not centralised around that specific area. my money is on the above being the problem and as previously stated mine disappeared in water also.

Hi John
Will these include a clip for keeping them clipped up out the way ? Will they fit left & righthanded handsets ? can't see a difference really but thought I would ask .

Re: Evo Display Irregularity

Has anybody sent their unit back and had a relacement to cure this problem? Mine did exactly the same thing today. Took it out of the garage, sat it in the sun (on a bench) while i pottered around on the unit. By the time the unit had gone through the calibration sequence, the tell-tale 'blob' had started to appear on the screen - definitely heat/direct sunlight induced as it has never happened since I've had the unit and this is the brightest weather we have had for a long time.

Re: Evo Display Irregularity

just some thoughts, i have noticed this on both our units, can't see it when it's under water, doesn't seem to obstruct my ability to read the display and changes depending on the angle...want to really add to it, put on some polarized lenses. I've assumed that it was some kind of optical distortion created by what appears to be a layer of thin, perhaps UV reducing, protective rubberized film on the display. I can see a little bit of it peeling back in one cornerk, what appears to be a rather thick and tinted version of what has come on the faces of watches and other things i've baught. I assumed it was meant to stay there, so i left it be. It would also make sense that heating it could increase this distortion as the rubber film and the glass lense are a different density...maybe the rubber film is expanding faster than the glass...anway, if what i've noticed is what you are seeing it doesn't seem like a true defect. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

my unit is winging its way back to me as we speak i will post and let you know as to the outcome,

and as to the film , there is a protective fim on the screen that is supposed to be there and they could be expanding at different levels and this could be pushing the screen down on components underneath as i said in my previous post, but i will let you know how it all goes (they had my lid for about a week to give you a lead time on repair due to my location it is the postage holding things up)

regards sib
