Re: Evo Display Irregularity

Hi all
On my mod 1 course i was warned about this and shown an example of a handset with these markings , and was told that it was the result of the handset bieng left in direct sunlight with the face outwards. The course was on the Hurricane in the Red Sea and lo and behold during the week another vision diver had this problem when his handset was left in the shade but as the sun came overhead it was then left in the sunlight for a maximum time of around 2 hours from our reckoning. The result was a discoularation of around 50% of the display.

Most if not all LCD screens have this problem when exposed to direct sunlight for some times.

However, the dark spot should go away eventually when the screen has cooled down based on my experience...

extended temperature versions (with proper UV shielding) of LCDs usually don't have this problem, but they are more expensive and aren't available in all configurations..

Re: Evo Display Irregularity

I had this too, mine was due to exposue to direct sunlight and yes it faded in water but reappeard and was a real pain on land. AP kindly changed it for me. If it is such a problem maybe they should think about a offering a nice little bag for the handset to be stored in!!

This got me thinking...

My windshield of my car has a film application that is clear, yet blocks 99% of the UV light (i.e. reducing heat).

So I wonder if I could put a layer of that on top of the display for assurance...

The UV shielding is not really for heat but rather the UV wavelength can interract with display itself..

Some displays like chLCDs will get totally washed out if exposed to too much UV..

Trust me that my car UV shielding is for heat-prevention...

The demo booth is really kewl... You stand on one side, the other side is a huge UV lamp.

They turn the lamp on with a clear glass in between, HOT. Then slide the clear glass with film-applied, cool.

I don't doubt it with the car, but UV rays can give a charge to some types of electronic structures and this can be moe of a problem than heat..
