![]() | Alternative Mouthpieces (again) Hi all! I've read the previous threads about replacement mouthpieces, but it still doesn't seem like there's a clear consensus. I've used a Seacure II on my OC Apeks reg for the last several years, and it's really gotten rid of the abrasion ulcers and sores that the standard Comfo-bite used to give me. So I guess there are two main reason for replacing the mouthpiece on your Rebreather: 1) Comfort 2) something that will stay in your mouth when you are either unconscious from hypoxia or convulsing from ox tox. Ideally I'd like to find something that satisfies both 1 and 2... but from what I have heard about the MantaBite (people love it, people hate it...) it might be impossible. I'd like to hear more about that special Drager mouthpiece that has a strap on it. Does the large black part just seal outside your lips, or does it go into your mouth like the Mantabite? I guess short of a FFM, the Mantabite and the Drager mouthpiece are the only 2 options that I am aware of that will possibly stay in the mouth during convulsion/unconsciousness. However, back to the main reason for me (comfort)... there are 2 other options that I am aware of: Seacure (probably Pro II, I have one on the way. But will it fit my Divematics DSV??) JAX mouthpiece. Has anyone tried to fit either of these mouthpieces onto a Divematics DSV? According to Tracy it is about the same diameter orifice as a Poseidon reg. Thanks in advance for the advice!! Yeang |

![]() | Re: Alternative Mouthpieces (again) Hi Yeang: The SeaCure II will fit on the Divematics BOC. Just make sure that you heat it up properly, maybe 20 seconds, and it will go on. Best regards, John |

I have been using them on my open circuit regs for a couple of years. No jaw fatigue, and they stay in your mouth easily. I hope never to have to find out how well they work if the diver loses consciousness. ![]() |

![]() | Re: Alternative Mouthpieces (again) Thanks for all the info, guys. John, are you referring to the plain vanilla SeaCure II, or the Pro version? I tried to order a Pro II as I read that there's a better chance of it working, but the store I ordered from sent me a Hi-Flow II (non-Pro) instead. If you guys have managed to get a plain Seacure II (non-Pro) on the Divematics with heating, I'll try it! When you say heat, you mean dip the end that goes on the reg in boiling water? Thanks again! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Alternative Mouthpieces (again) Well, after reading all this and poking about in Stoney Cove's shop yesterday, I bought a Jax. Now, I've had a few gumshields in my time where you heat them up and they try (repeat try) to mould to my somewhat irregular teeth. They were crap, and I had to get a real gumshield made by my dentist, much better for dealing with impacts anyway. So I got a Jax with a little hope but not a lot, after a dive where my teeth were starting to hurt a bit from having to use 2 teeth to control the slightly larger DSV on my old KISS. I've not even dived it yet and it's a winner. It's made out of some sort of magic plastic which feels like it's not going to bend right and couldn't possibly be comfortable, but then it is. It's more secure than any other moutpiece I've used. Impulse buy looks like a winner. Rock on. All I need now is to fit the Manta, Drager strap, FFM and KM to start down the road of tox-proofing... OK, maybe just see how the Manta goes and work from there. It does feel massively more comfortable out of the water already. £14.50 from underwaterworld.co.uk I think. Well, I had a look, and they don't seem to have them on the website. But they do have them in the shop. Give them a call, mind you with all you lot snaffling these things they'll probably sell out tomorrow. ![]() Digs. Last edited by Digger : 21st May 2006 at 13:58. |

![]() | Re: Alternative Mouthpieces (again) Hi Yeang: Trick question from you! There are three different models, I, II, and III. I used model II, which was clear plastic. If you have the yellow plastic insert that goes in the regulator side of the mouthpiece you need to pry it out. I dip the regulator end in hot, not boiling water until it feels pliabe. Too long, and it will melt out of shape. I used this addition this weekend on a Rebreather, but have done this for all of my Poseidon regs., and they really are very good. Sorry about the Hi-Pro comment, I just did not look that closely at the package as I have fitted about a dozen on the Poseidon. The Divematics unit is a little larger orifice, but mine went on without any difficulty. Hope this helps. Best regards, John ![]() |
