![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Diving at pH10 Hi, Found a bit of info regarding work in raised pH: "From a work safety perspective, industry discharges at pH 10.5 would be unlikely to cause injury through chemical burns. Industry discharges at pH 12, however, can cause chemical burns..." However this is discussing 'splash' and accidental exposure at atmospheric conditions. Not total immersion under pressure. If I was being asked to do this at work then I would be looking for some protection. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Neil

![]() | Re: Diving at pH10 Hi I just got back from Lake Van, and I saw a few kids swimming in the Lake. I did not dare myself, there wasn't much time anyways, but at the meeting there was a colleague that did some dives in the lake a few years ago. He told me that after ca. 45 min. the skin feels a bit soapy and itchy, but thats about it. A long shower and lots of skin cream afterwards was all he needed. The dives were done in Dry suits (4°C Water Temp) but without FFM. The only species of fish in the lake is apparently safe for eating, but so endangered nowadays that any fishing is prohibited. Interestingly, the fishes have to leave the lake and go up the rivers for spawning as the eggs cannot develop at such high pH. If it all works out and everything works as planned we may start the project in 2008. The area is beautiful, if anyone ever has the chance to go there, do it. Jens |
