Hi Paul.regards paul you have to add a normal sportjacket (or if you want a wing, backplate, harness works also), and one or (better) two small bottles. (I am not shure if the bailoutreg will be included) thats all. you can also add a pPO2 Monitor if you want. regards Holger

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | CORA II - the "perfect" Rebreather? ;-) Hi this is kind of a "cross-post" but since I wanted to post something about the CORA II rebreather (without having to start a new thread) I just picked the most recently updated thread from the search window. Trey posted this in "the perfect Rebreather" thread: Quote: (Originally Posted by trey) To me the perfect Rebreather would be something recreational (130 ft) to get more OC divers crossed over...in about the $2000 retail range... I guess - as others also have pointed out - that your wish has been granted, in the shape of the Seaway model CORA II. We had a product demonstration and test dive of the unit today with Mr Otto and Mr Luttermann from Seaway, and to give you the short version:I think a unit like this would be cool for regular fun dives and would serve as a 'gateway drug' to the bigger, badder RBs...and would just be quick and simple for ALL Rebreather divers that had no plan to drop below the 130 ft mark or to do a long dive. -T • it beats the Dolphin (possibly its closest competitor) in every aspect I can think of: modular design, robust and simple to handle and dive, compact, adaptable and adjustable, WOB, variable scrubber capacity, maintenance • it is affordable (1800,- € for the basic unit, add xy € for bottles, ca. 500 € for a gas (pO2) integrated dive computer displaying EAD and dive time etc.): this is well below the closest competitors (no names here )• it is as modular and travel-friendly as the KISS systems, as opposed to the "closed box" designs of p.e. Submatix, Dräger FGT with external cases • it has OTS counterlungs with good breathing comfort, easy drainage, manual add-on, easily reached and adjusted OP valve, short loop, easy DSV I honestly think that this can be a "workhorse" and offers a good deal for a very reasonable price. As pointed out by "CORA" a.k.a. Mr Otto of Seaway, the unit can also be upgraded to SCR II, mCCR and eventually eCCR by simply exchanging the head of the main ss cylinder which also contains the scrubber canister. That way you will be able to address most (ok, not ALL ) demands that one might have to a rebreather.(as a side note: discussing "the best" Rebreather is probably very much like discussing "the best" beer label, car brand, scuba philosophy, soccer club, operating system, and thus equally pointless: 'fan' comes from 'fanatic', remember... )I am looking forward to using it both for "fun dives" on SCR (and eventually mCCR) as well as using it for 'work dives', i.e. scientific dive missions under polar pack ice where it will be replacing the Dolphin previously used. One aspect why I also think that it well be a good replacement is the easy and reasonable availability of spare parts: almost all components are "off-the-shelf" standard issue seals, o-rings, etc. and repair/maintenance costs are therefore also very reasonable, which is a relief if you have to plan and provide for a 3-month ship expedition to the Southern Ocean. NOT so easy - NOR cheap - when you go to certain other manufacturers... The only issue that remains is the use of a FFM with the system, but this will be addressed by either adapting a Dräger Nova (see recent posts on that subject, where DrMike is currently also offering tailor-made adaptor pieces). Alternatively, if Seaway offers a FFM (apparently already in the pipeline) that works with the CORA II that might make that obsolete. Last edited by leptonyx : 9th June 2006 at 19:34. |
