Re: Strobs and shot lines

I didn't think about tape on the threads. That should help, but I would still like to have a working o-ring.

The trick here is that the prussik cord needs to be < 1/2 the diameter of the main cord. Using a cord with a 3 strand laid construction is also better than something braided.

Mine is tied as a double loop bowline in the end of a cord with a yachting clip on the other end.

The downside to doing this, is if people run overlapping schedules, since the prussik then has to be removed and replaced.

As phi says, without any tension, the prussik is easy to slide up/down. This makes it ideal for this application IMHO.

I have tried Prussik many times. The strobe either slid to the bottom or floated up depending on how much/little current and/or the type of anchor line.

Using a bungie loop, it stays in place perfectly. Takes 2 second to tie on and take off. Takes less space and always attached to the strobe.

But if it works for you, perfect!

As mentioned, Prussik is perfect for as a Jon line since you could slide up easily, and stays put under tension. The only problem when sliding is someone else already slightly above you, and still has more time at the same depth, then you have to take the knot off to go around him.

Re: Strobs and shot lines

Phi,

My reply to Coops was about jon lining onto the shot, not strobes. Good old thread drift.....
