MV Readings again

I just put a new cell in and I'm only getting 40 mv in O2. The problem is as soon as that gets to 39 I not going to be able to calibrate it anymore. Is it common for the cell to read 40 right out of the bag? I must say I getting a little pissed off because this cell is a replacement for a cell that had only lasted not even 3 months .

I typically give a cell a day to fully wake up before I am concerned about it reading a little low... It's not uncommon for them to read a little low right out of the bag.

I've let it sit a couple days now.

scott what reading are you getting in air?? (asuming seal level if its at altitude it will be less)

if its much more than 8.37mv then your not flushing correctly (assuming you are using 100%),

some other #s for you, if you had 99% it should be about 8.44 in air, 8.53 for 98%

I think I'm being very anal about the amount of flushing I do. I doing at least 4-5 flushes and I follow your directions to a tee. I'm getting 9 mv in air but only 40 mv in O2. I've just replaced this cell with another new one and now I'm getting a reading of 48 mv and my other two are reading 54's. I know the other two are correct because I've been keep a log of the readings. I've got the sensor in a box right now ready to ship back so if I need to do try anything else. I did the calibration routine about 4 times and it still would not go above 40mv.

do me a favor for curiosity, measure the 3 cells in air using a voltmeter.. the HH does some rounding (to the nearest mv) so I need to see the actual values at the low end, because 9mv in air should be about 43 in 100%..

Sorry but I just got in the door from sending them back to Patrick. I also needed to send back another cell because of erradic readings that was the cause of my sensor problems earlier this month and it was probably compounded with the leak on my electronics head. This new sensor seems to be working fine and hopefully that's the end of all my sensor issues as its stressful when I discover sensor issues 2 hours into a 3 hour dive.

Re: MV Readings again

Or it could be that the Hammeroid has struck again!!!

Have you checked the connections in the head and swapped the cells around to be sure it is a cell and not some green gunge in a banana plug or something.

If there were "green Gunge" then hes not doing the necessary maintenance and checks .. The connectors should be checked and cleaned regularly.. It should be part of his normal setup checks.. It takes less than a minute to check the bananna block, harness and sensors...

Although to be honest, most sources of corrosion should effect the negative terminals only.. They will turn black (its a combination of a chemical/electrical reaction) and its easy to spot and clean, plus this is usually so thorough that you will get a sensor reading of 0.00, If you get corrosion on the positive terminals its cause would really only be residue from wet sorb or salt water...
