What cell mV do you usually see?

Hi all,

I haven't previously measured my R22 cell mV output (though I do check they can read >1.6 fairly regularly).
Teledyne's web site specs says the R22 puts out 10.5mV+/-2.5mv (in air), thats quite a big range for "normal" i.e. 8mV to 13mV.
Mine read 8.7, 8.9, 9.1mV
What readings do people usually get for healthy cells?

Thanks
Neil

i have seen them done to 6.5 and still do a full cal. but after they fall out of spec the go in the trash. cheap life insurance.

Re: What cell mV do you usually see?

My 3 cells were measured at around 10mV one month ago when I received them (R22D from Teledyne Analytical). I will check tonight their actual values.

But if yours read around 9mV, they are in specs.

What would you count as "out of spec"?

From now on I'll measure them when they are new too, so I know where they are starting from!

Re: What cell mV do you usually see?

Two new cells can read different...one high and the other low.....the lower one is not nececary less good.....it can still have just the same lifetime and read as accurate.......( I was told)

Re: What cell mV do you usually see?

I was taught to check the mv reading before every diving day and make sure they are reading 10 or more mv exposed to air and 40 or more mv when exposed to 100% 02

Actually you should read 50mV or more.

Oh yeah? Well, I am getting 50 plus..... Last night I set up the unit for a dive that I will be doing in about 1 hour and I got 52,53,59 on Primary and 53,52,63 on Sec

Where did you read, or who told you 50 plus? Do these numbers come from Teledyne?

P.S. What the hell are you doing up so early, or up so late?

Simple maths: 10mV in air (roughly 20% of O2) should give 5 times more in 100% O2. Given that the cell is linear.
But yeah, you're right, that's not really 5 times.

Well, actually it's nearly 5PM here in France, so that's not so late and quite not early!

Edit: here are the measures

03/09/2006: 9.9mV 10.5mV 10.6mV
03/14/2006: 10.5mV 11.2mV 11.3mV (voltmeter: Fluke77, first cell without the 10k load resistor)

Do the cells have higher output voltage with a load? I measured mine with kiss displays off.

Still wondering if my cells are near the end of their life if only 8.7mV, they are about a year old - how long do they usually last people? (obviously will depend to some extent how long they are used at high PO2, and whether anyone stores them in an inert atmosphere).

Anyone?.....

Thanks,
Neil
