| Megalegalegalegadingdong! ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Smokers Following the thread on fitness, I was wondering how many smokers we have out there. I myself have recently given up having been a heavy smoker. A recent trip to the Red Sea and diving with a German Hyperbaric Doctor led me to realise how I was dicing with danger diving deep and being a heavy smoker (must admit to being the kind of guy that would spark up after a long deep dive as soon as I got my wetsuit off!). Under the Doctors advice I went to my GP and was prescribed Zyban which is absolutely fantastic - no cravings and smoke-free for the last month. The only problem is that I can't fit into my wetsuit any more due to putting in the pounds! So who still smokes, who'se given up and what thoughts do people have about smoking and diving in general? |

Moved into new neighborhood and big kids were smoking. So I did. Quit at 24 in college. Got tired of people stealing cigs out of my room. Dad smoked from time he went in Navy,17, till he died. Camel no filter first. Till about 55 then Boro lights.. Dad was a brain. Was in College for a year before joining Navy. Graduated early. Went to college. All his friends were going into service. So he did to. No officer. Regular Navy. |

I only smoke cigars (on surface) for the therapeutic value, as I see it my lungs are working hard to breathe and that much work must be worth some credit of aerobic activity. To combat any ill effects I drink red wine, works so far…hh! Hack! Hhh! So who still smokes, who'se given up and what thoughts do people have about smoking and diving in general? DT |

As for Marlboro, I gave those up well over 15 years ago, but I was only ever a social smoker (at most 1 pack a week...mostly on the weekend). T Last edited by trob09 : 7th April 2006 at 18:02. |

For me, I smoked one or two per day in college but quit the day I graduated. It was my one graduation present I gave to myself. It's been over 5 years now for me

Proved that quitting Cigarettes is easy by doing it several times... ![]() Quit for good at 42 when Jules got preggers with Benji. 6 years this coming July, no smoking. I will say, however, that in my opinion one of the BEST things about finishing up a long dive was sitting on the back of the boat, and lighting up that cig. I can fully understand why Cousteau used to light up after a dive. 'Course, when I tried to do it like him (Red Beanie, Red Ball-Bag Speedo's), my shipmates refused to even acknowledge my existence... ![]() Kevin. |

The liver is evil and must be punished..... Lungs, on the other hand, are good, and must be cared for.... |
