How many hours?

After reading the thread "How old are you?" (for the CCR divers)
I have a question as well: Approximately how many hours experience did you have on open circut before making the switch to CCR?

Editor's Note: Okay, guys and gals, fess up! If you are like myself and ScubaDad (We admit to having been lazy!), sit down and try to make an accurate assessment of actual hours, and post it in the poll. Be honest. There are no prizes or punishments involved. We are just trying to get an accurate picture of the "experience curve" overall.---R. Davie, Rebreather World Staff

Not as many as you, you old-timer!

Hmmm, if I had to guess it would be around 1,000

Re: How many hours?

Now there is an interesting question, Lamar. Why don't you post it as a poll with a good range of options?

I know for myself, I've been diving fairly steadily since 1972, and took up Rebreather diving in 2001. Being lazy, however, I gave up logging my dives after I passed 2000+, and didn't start logging again until I got into technical diving. I never logged minutes and hours until I began diving my CCR.

Seems strange, when you think that I keep extensive logs as a pilot, but it never did rub off in diving until now. Mea maxima culpa!

Re: How many hours?

I am kind of in the same boat. I first put a tank on an breathed underwater when I was about 10 years old or less (late 1960's). Certified OC in the late 1970's.

I gave up logging dives a long time ago. I thought I would start again with CCR, and I sort of have if you count my posts here.

I figure I had above 2,000 dives prior to going CCR. I used to track the hours way back when. I can't say what that would amount to though.

Re: How many hours?

In 1989, in the military, I went from OC to CCR in less than a week.

So how about putting in less than 20 hours??????

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

Re: How many hours?

As Rob said I never logged minutes and hours until I began diving CCR.
However in 16 years I logged more than 2000 OC dives but I didn't logged them since 1600.

Re: How many hours?

I started diving in 1992 and did my first Rebreather dive on the Cis Lunar in about 96 then a few dives on the Atlantis on and off. Started diving homebuilt O2 rebreathers in 2002 and moved on to mixed gas homebuilt mCCRs in 2003. I gave up in 2005 and bought a CK. I'd only really count my RB diving from there, I'd done about 2000 dives at that point so probably 2000hrs would be a good estimate.
