![]() | Baggage Limits In looking at American Airlines new baggage travel restrictions, now limited to 50 lbs per bag for international travel with $25 per bag for 50-70 lbs. I can keep my traveling weight for the rebreather to less than 70 lbs and have no big qualms about paying an extra $25 for the overweight. However, if you look in the specialty items area on their website regarding baggage allowances, they now charge $80 for Scuba gear if you are carrying a cylinder. Also limit is one cylinder. Has anyone ran into any hassles yet on these restrictions? I'm going to be traveling again shortly with the rebreather and I usually carry the two cylinders with the rebreather due to inavailability at the dive destinations. I'm just wondering if they may play hardball and tell me I have to put the second cylinder in a 2nd bag and then they get to charge me $80 for each bag. Anyone run into any problems on this?

![]() | Re: Baggage Limits Hi Bob, I have used American Boston to Cayman several times. They haven't treated the rebreather cylinders as a seperate item so far. I moved from an Inspiration to an Evolution to beat the 70 lb rule just in time to have them go to 50. I pack the Evolution & a 3 mil suit in the case and that weighs 47 lb. Pack all other gear & cloths in the second bag. Pack my cylinders and electroncs in my carry on for 37 lb. Last, I carry my sling tank regs and VR3 in a reg bag as my "personal item". Although TSA gets all over the cylinders at the checkpoint, I'm there to stare them down and have so far. I've read here that folfs have lost their cylinders to inspections of their checked bags so be careful. hopes this helps. J.R. |

But it turned out that they meant any loose cylinders, not the ones that you can fit in the bags, and within the weight limits. I had no problems going from NYC to Roatan. I hope American is the same. -Andy |
