Re: Bail out tank valves

I turn my bail out bottles on on the surface and leave them on all the dive, my Apecks regs are dialed in to the - side, and i've never had as yet one go in free flow. My thinking is that an eventual bail out would be more imediate if the tank is allready turned on.

Thanks for the feed back guys, as allready stated, I think in a bailout situation with all the stress possibly involved you dont want to be fummbling to turn on the cylinder.

Still very much a on closed circuit, but in my open circuit days I used to pressurise a stage reg on the surface. Close it, then crack it open a tiny amount - about as much as when you're checking the Nitrox mix with an analyser. The idea being that it would equalise on the way down, but it a freeflow wouldn't lose shedloads of gas.

When I got to the bottom, I would close it completely.

Re: Bail out tank valves

I use a shut off at the 2nd stage and an OPV on the first. I pressurize at the surface, close the valve & do the dive. That way the reg stays pressurized & no water can get in. With the OPV you can also safely dive with the valve open & the 2nd stage shut off closed.

If you do this be sure to practice deploying the second stage with the shut off until it becomes 2nd nature or you might find yourself confused & starving for gas in a real situation.

Re: Bail out tank valves

Wasn`t it so that most of the flow stops restrict gas flow?

This might lead to difficulties if you are bailing out deep...

Re: Bail out tank valves

Bail out gas I leave on all the time. Deco gas, drop tanks or gases taken beyond their MOD I leave off but pressurised.
