![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | What would you do? So I've recently been offered a second Meg as a back-up rebreather. The cost would be a little less than retail for a basically new unit (I've put more time on it than anyone...). If you were to get a second unit, would you: - get one that is identical to the unit you are already diving knowing that it's a back up and you don't have to go through any crossover training - get a completely different unit for the interest/experience of a different unit - spend the money on diving I'm leaning towards #3...thoughts? t |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: What would you do? I would: Get a nice kit of spare parts, then enhance my current rig with everything that could make my diving experience easier and more convenient, then spend the rest on some great diving. Unless of course, you feel like going for a twin-meg... ![]() My 0.02c -Jesse- |

I want a BOB, when I start doing the kind of dives I want to do, but that is a long time off, the only thing it would be good for right now to me is I could lend it to the old fat guy.- get one that is identical to the unit you are already diving knowing that it's a back up and you don't have to go through any crossover training - get a completely different unit for the interest/experience of a different unit - spend the money on diving I'm leaning towards #3...thoughts? t

Basically, the ability to pull it out & dive it if the first one showed problems. several of us sat out a couple of dives in our cave class two weeks ago due to minor issues with two different megs (mine and Tom Mount's). Both ended up being fixed, but when you're twiddling your thumbs in High Springs (not to mention 90 miles off shore), a back-up looks pretty good.Quote: (Originally Posted by caver95) if you where teaching you could rent it out. I keep avoiding the instructor path - not worth it to me. By the time I paid for the instructor classes, I could have just bought that second rebreather...Quote: (Originally Posted by caver95) I want a BOB You and me bothQuote: (Originally Posted by caver95) ...I could lend it to the old fat guy. that would be me... |

The key is that the available meg has shearwater electronics.I guess I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need a back-up all that much. T |

If I end up going with a Meg at some point I would only do it if the plan included a backup set.... That being said I have never had to resort back to my back-up set... But you do sleep better...
