Be prepared for 2 dives a day a long one in the morning (2h to 3h) and a shorter one in the afternoon (1h to 1,5h). A little break of 1 hour between dives. Although I am fairly used to cold lake temperature 4°C. I must say that I was getting fairly cold at the end of the day.

Dry Gloves
DUI CF200X
DUI Ultra Thinsulate 400

Very important PEE VALVE on your dry suit! Otherwise

As usual you should concentrate on having multiple layers of good insulation quality rather then one thick jumpsuit. I did not apply this for the course thinking that my thinsulate would be OK.

With the above I only use 2Kg of weight, I could do with nothing, but like to have that little extra air/argon in the suit!

Cheers,
Hi Phil,

Yes Im doing the course with Phil at Stoney from 14th April.

I have the same set up as you, Drygloves, and thinsulate 400.

Only 2kg? Thats good to know. I am not a fat bastard and dont use lead on any unit when diving wet or dry (using the fleece only) Guess Ill have to wait and see if I need anything with the 400.

When you talk about the need for base layers - what would you recommend I get?

Do people use straws to allow the gloves to equalise or does everyone use those glove connecting systems?

Mike

If you are using a dry glove setup with the ring connecting system such as the Si Tech and the wrist seal is in place you wil need a straw to equalize air between the suit and glove. (at least I find it to be a bit more comfortable).

I have had good success with the Diving Concepts dry glove snap-on kit on my DUI. It can be configured with the wrist seals in place or "open" ended direct to the glove.

I dont have the wrist ring system. The gloves have a tapered latex seal like the drysuit wrist seals - I presume to wear I put the drysuit on with its wrists seals not folded under and then put the gloves on with the glove seals folded under ontop of the flat drysuit seals??

A straw is placed under my drysuit wrist seal extending into the glove?

Have you latex seals on the drysuit?
In that case yes

With the max depth you will do on the course you could probably get away without the straws but it will be uncomfortable (speaking from experience here). If you try to do the course over 4 days you will end up with some long runtimes and warmth/comfort becomes essential, not so bad over 5 days I suppose. Good luck with the course, 500 mins in Stoney isn't the most exciting diving you'll do but the unit is fun to learn.

I used to wear my 4th element fleece underneath it, very nice and warm, even with my at tiem very leaky drysuit. Thankfully I know have a nice O Three - toasty
