I just recently saw the bungee rings that Dive Rite is now offering, anyone have any experience with these? Looks like you clip your stages into the ring, which is pulled back into the armpit by the bungee. If the bungee fails, you're still clipped in to the ring which is quick linked to a clip and attached to your shoulder d-ring, which seems like it would make a boat appropriate setup. I've got a few on the way and will be playing around with them in the coming weeks, but any thoughts until they get here?

I've been using these for the past several weeks and its been working out really well, both on mounting 40's and 80's on both sides. I have the Nomad XT with the Tech Butt plate mounted on my rEvo II standard and with the bungee rings it makes sidemounting on a boat a real breeze.

I was looking at these the other day. In the back of my mind, I kept thinking they would not pull the valve and reg up tight enough (given the tank is clipped to the ring rather than the bungee around the tank neck). I agree it would hold the tank more securely when out of the water.

Do you feel that the tank is really out of the way? Does the clip on your shoulder D-ring make it more difficult to work with the D-ring?

After digging through several posts saying to search for packer rings, I finally found the post you are referring to, along with your relevant reply to the "tank valve too far from the armpit" question. Thanks!

"Everything has its tradeoffs. The short answer is that it is not enough of a difference to matter much. The ring allows you to pull down on the bungee with your thumb. So, once you connect the bolt snap, and let go of the ring, it pulls the tank up pretty high. This pretty much puts the tank back into the same place as it would be using the "bungee wrap around the valve" method. I don't think that the final result is much different insofar as the tank position is concerned.

On the other hand, it is much faster completing the process. I find this to be a great advantage when trading bottles."

Hi Dave,

What I did was add a choker around the neck of the tank and through the bolt snap. The choker keeps the bolt snap tight against the tank valve which in turn keeps the tank nice and tight against me and out of the way. I agree that without the choker the loose bolt snap would allow the tank to dangle lower under your arms in the water.

Also, you can add and remove quick links to the ring bungee setup to get that perfect fit.

I'll see if I can get some pictures of my setup in the water this weekend. We are heading out to the "mud hole" to dive some less visited wrecks, so I'm not too sure how good the visibility is going to be for photo's but we'll give it a try.

I just posted some photos of myself using the nomad butt plate and Bungee's. I have 3 bailout bottles in a sidemount configuration if you want to see them... the photo's are posted in the gallery under Megalodon action shots... I use a very short rigging system to help pull the tanks down under your arm pit.. and for the 3rd tank I use an additional short loop bungee, girth hitched to the chest D-ring... All in all it is a very easy to use and secure system... I can mount four 12ltr. bail-out bottles in a very streamline Side-Mounted configuration... Check it out and let me know what you think...

Looks pretty good! I made my first few dives with the DR Tech plate and bungee rings over the weekend. The lower plate is very easy to clip in to on both sides, but I needed to add a quick link on the left side bungee to make the ring easier to grab when geared up. I initially had a very hard time clipping in to the rings with medium sized bolt snaps, but replacing those with XL snaps (thanks Serge!) made a world of difference. The left side bottle feels perfect, but the right side needs some tweaking, too much leash length on the bottom left it swinging below me for the duration of the dive. Other than that, so far so good!
