rebreather stations

I've worked with Ron Benson (Deep Thought) in setting up a rebreather station in Truk with stage bottles/Sofnolime/helium etc. (all which is being left behind after our trip). I supported the project by working out the shipping logistics and selling cylinders and valves @ cost. I would like to start on online discussion to see if we can develop a working procedure without anyone taking advantage and seeing if it is viable .

This is a very good idea. The agro of shipping stuff to remote locations, and back is huge.

What sort of arrangements are you proposing? I fancy a visit to Truk later this year, or next at the latest.

Cheers

I would like to see such a thing in the bay islands , I have contacts that can store items and perhaps handle fills , via AKR.

I am open to any proposal. I thought I would float it out there and see if there is any interest and view everyone's thoughts on how YOU thought it should work.

Re: rebreather stations

Interesting thought. I like it. The question I would have is how would these stores be replenished?

Re: rebreather stations

It's an outstanding idea, but how would it be implemented? How will restocking, etc be accomplished? I definitely think it's worth investigating!

I'm in the lead weight and tank business-the one thing I really know is how to do is ship stuff on the cheap. The idea is to get the cylinders where we need them an leave them there, then the only replenishment would be chemical and depending on interest, helium.

So are you envisioning something along the lines of a co-op? "Members" buying in and reserving tanks and consumables for specific dates?

I think it's a fantastic idea. I have been out to Truk twice, the last time in Aug '04- a trip that was 2 years or so in the planning. We tried to bring in He and gave up due tot he logistical nightmare it quickly became (I suspect that was in part due to the op. we used). I'm just trying to wrap my mind around the logistics and organization of this type of project.

Re: rebreather stations

This has potential - It would be realtivley to expand the Rebreather World community with a little add on, to track membership shares in things and then add a booking system....

Though like anything it would need an 'owner' or 'main admin'...

Re: rebreather stations

Last year I shipped in a pallet containing stages/rebreather cylinders/helium/sofnolime and did the same this year-it just arrived. we leave everything behind for future trips.

I am looking to the rebreather community to help be design a program that we all can use.
