I can clip a wing to my harness (no back plate) in most English and Welsh sumps I do not use any buoyancy control device. the sumps are not that deep and normally small in size one meter high (or less) you can always crawl home :-) Some times I use a dry suit and that takes care of bouyancy.

Either nothing (get yourself correctly weighted), clip on a wing (which can be held down nicely) or (if you don't like stuff on your back) wear a jacket type BC.

Like this:

or this

in fact my backplate/wing combo has waist and shoulder attachments to sidemount cylinders direct. In my case I dive with backmounted bailout and sidemounted rebreather (one side) and O2 (the other) with dil fed from the backmounts.

All you need to add (bilateral) sidemounted bailouts to a backplate/wing is a hip D-ring each side and a bit of elastic from your backplate around to a clip to your shoulder D-rings as below attached.

Re: Sidemount - up there with scooters and HID lights

I am clipping normal slider bold clips to my shoulder d-rings just as I did when I side slung the tanks. I do not use the bungee for the tank neck.

Then, I am clipping the tail slider bolt to the butt plate "handles." When I used to side sling them, they would clip onto my waist d-ring.

Thumbs down Golem Gear website

Is it just me having problems with the Golem Gear website?

I tried about a month ago to order an Armadillo but cannot get past the shipping quote in my basket.

I put in France, my post code and then it only accepts half my town and then nothing.

I tried again today and the same thing happened.

So let me ask Jakub a question.........

"Do you want my money or not?"

If you do then please sort out the website.

Thanks,

Dave Cooper.

Re: Sidemount - up there with scooters and HID lights

Sorry for the problems with the site (that's a first time someone made me aware of this), but:
We will take your money, Dave
Do not worry about the character limit for the City in the Shipping rate calculator. As long as you enter the country and the postal code, it will give you a correct ship rate.
If everyrhing else fails, you can always PM me and I will process your order manually.
A new batch of Armadillos is being manufactured, so it will be 4-5 weeks before they ship.
ArmadilloCCRs are available.

Re: Sidemount - up there with scooters and HID lights

I just put my YBOD in a travel frame and I thought what the heck while I'm

at it I'll also add a sidemount for my B/O and I have to say I'll never go back

to the standard way of slinging B/O. I was diving in a cave today that has a

pretty good flow going through it and I would have to say since adding the

travel frame and the sidemount kit I expended a lot less energy swimming

into the flow. Can't wait to go back tomorrow since I know now I can make

it further now with my increase swim speed.

Here is a new idea.

When I have trouble ordering anything, I e-mail or call the company for assistance.

Maybe its a new concept, but it will probably get a quicker responce compared to waiting a month and trying again.

Yeah thanks Curt maybe I should remember to breath out and in every couple of seconds as well.......

I happen to be very very busy at the moment and the Armadillo isn't quite the most important thing on my agenda......

Also, I have tried it again today and it does not work.

When I get back from Morocco next Friday I will PM you Jakub.

I swapped to using a Dring plate (actually one of Tobin's undercounterlung d-rings) that has the d-ring bit below the waist harness rather than in-line with it. Drops the mounting point a bit lower on your butt (donkey?) and seemed to work a bit better.

Also, running one bit of bungy with loops on each end, rather than two bits of bungy (one each side) means you can stretch each side out in turn to make it easier to slip the loop over the reg / valve on the stage.

I find it easier to attach the clips to the butt D-rings first, then stand up and do the bungy bit with the tanks upright and supported at my waist. If I try and do it sitting down it's a lot harder to get the bungy over the reg/valve. The first one is OK to do but the second is a bit tight.

In the water is a lot easier to remove the tanks - might help you fit back onto the boat easier too.

Mike
