Maybe I should have said "you can't easily manually add dil". I meant that it has no dil add button. Sorry, -Andy Isn't it easier to close the DSV and take a breath through the bailout reg then blow it in the loop. I assumed that was why a manual dil add was unnessasary

Given, that doesn't work I do use the technique you mentioned. |

I did that on dives to almost 70 meters and you have to equalize the lungs quite a few times before you reach the wreck, every time letting in a little water in the loop...... When I arrived at the wreck my rebreather sounded like a waterbong Cheers Rodge |

I bet it was closing the DSV and doing the OC thing. IMO too much task loading especially when going deep. Just so that I am on thread...the MEG can seem to withstand the brutality of some OC gorillas. Apart from the cable being deliberately pierced everything else is pretty darn tough. It would be cool if someone designed a shroud, not that it needs one. The MEG handset is definitely tougher than the PO2 displays of the KISS. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Should I sell my KISS and buy a Meg? I was on a trip this some OC guys and one of my displays flooded. Dont know if they had anything to do about it but I found myself at 220' looking at one display that read -.01. Not something you like to see. Aside from that one insident I have found the Kiss Displays very user friendly, and easy to gain info from. I like the method of placing the Kiss Displays on my left arm and my Explorer on my right. That way I can see everything when my arms are in front of me. The only reason I am moving to the MEG is to go Deeper. The Kiss is just so easy to dive and use. I have never missed a dive, and hope never to. As far as deep decents go I have no problem with dil addition. I just make sure that my dil has around 1.00 pp of 02 at my max depth. Then set the unit to around .7 for my 20' check, and then blast down to max depth. The ADV will kick in every few breaths, and I may have to add alittle 02 as well. But not much. Once at depth, I add 02 to reach my desired po2 usually 1.3. OC is for Bailout, stay on the loop. |

![]() | Re: Should I sell my KISS and buy a Meg? I was a CK diver for three years and still rate it as the best value form money CCR out there. In the end I moved to a Meg as I felt it was more appropriate to the increasingly deeper, more aggressive diving I was doing. It was a tough call, I had dived the CK to 100+m on several occasions and done some pretty aggressive wreck penetration work (and others have pushed even further) and was very happy with it in general, but in the end it was starting to suffer from hard use and a few less than optimal design features. I also wanted closer SP control. The final deciding factor was getting a slug of water when upending inside a wreck, there wasn’t a lot of water but I nearly drowned due to choking. The absence of baffles in the loop make this more of potential hazard on the KISS. Now that I have dived the Meg for a year (~130 hours) I know it was the right choice (for the diving I do) but if my diving was a tad less demanding I would question the decision given the extra cost. Let me set one myth straight though …. I believe the Meg is actually the most simple to use when you consider setup, calibration, dive protocol, travel and maintenance as whole. I spend appreciably less time frigging with the Meg than the CK (and I had a lot less hassle with displays than most) both out of and in the water. For a truly ‘KISS’ diving experience I doubt you can beat the Meg (ask people who have a Meg who have had other units and I think you will find they say the same). It just never misses a beat, holds calibration and is as strong as an Ox. As has already been said by others it depends on how you use your unit, but if you do a lot of diving, especially if it is of a more demanding variety or in a hostile environment, and if you truly want ‘plug and play’ simplicity, the Meg is the tool of choice. I can highly recommend Soo Seng in Bandos to anyone you wants to get a tan while doing their Meg certification! Regards, Fred |
