Actually, I don't know since I don't teach cave diving.

But personally, I carry enough OC-bail-out by myself to get 1 diver out. And not the whole team carries enough for 1.5 diver out.

The difference is (IMHO) the larger the team, the less redundancy it is by the team approach since you have higher number of failure possibilities (higher number of divers on CC) yet each diver carries less gas as the total is still 1.5 diver.

If my buddy does the same, than we could self-rescue. Or have twice the redundancy for 1 failure.

Re: Long hose bail out!

Too much B/O is never a bad thing. And if you have a lot of members on your team 9 times out of 10 your going to more than enough B/O anyways.

Re: Long hose bail out!

Interesting question isnt it? I guess you have to be diving with someone who has no bailout (personally I dont dive with these people and if they have a problem, its their tough titty).

I wouldnt bother with a 2m hose, since if my buddy is bailed out, he can use his own bailout and swap with me when his gets down to 1/2 full.

Like phi, Im a fan of being able to bail myself out if I need it. There will be dives where its not feasible to carry enough bailout. At that point, I either stage it before the dive.... or possibly have to look into other options (bailout breather/team gas etc)

Re: Long hose bail out!

Maybe I was misunderstood. Bottom line is I would never dive without a B/O and if I dive with another CCR diver they will be carrying some sort of B/O as well or they won't be diving with me.

Re: Long hose bail out!

A longer hose would be more benifical to a O/C diver which most of my dives are.

First of all, in case of BO lost we call the dive. During this time to the surface my buddy maybe just need a quick bailout to check on the CC malfunctioning. In this case he don't need the tank but just few breaths.
However as someone said before it is better to give the regulator quickly then, eventually, the rest of the BO (tank).

Thats what i was thinking, tommorow i'm giving a 2mt. hose a try, the two mt.s may come in handy if having to exit a wreck in single file.

Surfacing is a option if your not in an overhead enviroment. When cave diving we don't have that luxury.

Of course! One more point for the long hose.
