Flying with sofnolime

Do you have any experiences of flying with sofnolime in your baggage?

Have you had trouble with the security or customs officers?

I am flying to Hurghada next week and I intend to take as much lime as possible with me.

You can get all of the relevant documentation from the manufacturer's website. Have lots of copies with you, and tape one on each jug. I have travelled with fair amounts of it, and have had no problems.

Well I just came back from Hurgada.
I had no problems taking our boxes of softnolime with me. My travelagence told me to take them with me, unopened in a bag.

Have some nice dives...

I have had issues with TSA people who apply rules randomly at best. No issue with customs or inspectors entering a country. The issue I had involved transferring the sorb into bags to split up in my luggage. Although I carried all of the documentation the argument was "It could be anything -including kitty litter, salt, sugar..." Apparently any substance that does not come in an original package including; potato chips, cookies, etc. could be hazardous even though it passes the tissue test.

The good news is that the TSA with all of its infinite wisdom now allows scissors, knives and other weapons back aboard commercial flights.

Appearance or packaging can deceive or impress a person such as the arbitrary TSA screeners. It would not take too much imagination to vacuum seal it in bags and use a computer printer to create labels. If you copy the information off of the label without deceit and carry the proper documents it should not be an issue.

Re: Flying with sofnolime

Unfortunately the only original packages that I have are the 30kg ones. Those are not very nice to fit inside the bag.

I have to split the lime in smaller bottles or something and just put Moleculars safety data sheets inside the bag.

Re: Flying with sofnolime

A year ago me and my buddy went to the red sea. At Landvetter airport in Sweden they called for my buddy via the speakersystem and we had to meet up with personell from the customs. My buddy had a lock on his bag so he had to unlock the bag for a visual inspection. The sofnolime-container was still factorysealed and he also had a productsheet to show the customs. This was enough and the customs was satisfied.

My buddy have travelled a lot with his YBOD and he once was stoped for an inspection (I think it was in america). The inspector believed he had hit the jackpot and found a few kilo of drugs. My buddy said the inspector looked really satisfied before he relaised it wasn't drugs

Re: Flying with sofnolime

I can't take credit for this one...it comes from a very repected individual in the rebreather community. He said that it is quite easy to print stickers that say, "Safe for Airline Travel". What a great idea!!! You can put it on anything that you want to be safe.

Re: Flying with sofnolime

Dont know wether it is true But was told story.

Richie stevens used to print lables for sofna lime tubs that called it "Suit drying material", when questioned buy customs he simply explained it worked the same as silica gell removeing moisture but this was specially designed for dry suits and you needed alot because of the size of a suit. Off they would go really happy.
