We were discussing about units that you could get certifications for, thus the charter boat example. There is no certification for the Russian units which means commercial charter boats could prevent you from diving on their boat.

Insurance agents don't make mistakes. They use personel recorders to get us to make mistakes. They do what they can to make money...LOL

Commercial Charter boats can and have denied Rebreather diving off there boats. Even with proper certs...

Rest of the World has worse problems... We always get called to fix em....

OK, Is it illegal to sell a rebreather to another person without training in the US. NO.... Would I yes....

Is it illegal for a manufacturer to ship a Rebreather to someone without training in the US... NO..... Is it Prudent for them to do so... NO... They have deeper pockets... Lawyers like those... I think that is why the Kiss's began requiring training to US buyers. Liabilities.. But from my understanding not to the rest of world...

Someone in the UK can chime in if it's illegal there.

Kiss's require training wherever you are in the world, not just the US.

If you think about it, its common sense really...

well it may be comman sense but who taught gordon smith who to use the first one?? should he have done a training course with one

yes yes i can see that i hate doing the crazy ticket thing but to cover your ass sometimes you have to then if you have a family or loved ones for insurance you need them

but to sell and cover your ass if they do die it gives a bit of piece of mind to have seen a cert (whether they have earnt it or bought it) i have seen all sorts and heard all sorts (yer i did a sort of course ) (i know you i will give you a ticket if you want pal ) How many of these types ARE there out there!

so if you sell to some one knowing they have no ticket and they do snuff could you live with that and then the legal stuff as well ??

I considered buying a classic some time ago (right after the Sport was introduced) and called to ask about this, as the training requirement "magically" appeared on Jetsam's web page at roughly the same time.

What I was told is that the agencies who were going to offer a class for the KISS required that Jetsam not sell without a certification as a condition of them being willing to offer a cert for the unit.

The horse is sadly unavailable to verify this.....

However, this sort of arm-twisting (if it occurred) does raise all sorts of questions about "tied sales" (which ain't legal in some places.)
