POLL: 2-way Heads Up Display. Would do you think?

A 2-way HUD is simply a standard HUD with an extra set of LEDs or lights facing away from the diver. The idea is that when I approach my buddy I would be able to assess their CCR O2 computers without asking if they are ok every time.

The idea came about during a dive where my buddy was motionless at the stern of wreck in 60ft of water. I became concerned because he was not attentive or responding to my signals. I swam over to him to assess the situation and discovered that he was looking at fish swimming inside the hull. After my heart returned to normal operation I thought that it would be nice if I was able to see get a sense of his condition more rapidly.

Of course this situation was just two new CCR divers learning each others style, dive personality and techniques but the idea seemed valid regardless.

What do you think about a 2-way HUD system?

My personal preferenc is to have some type of signaling on the top of the diver's kit.. So that I could see them from behind.. In darker water you can generally see the reflection off a persons mask on the brighter HUDs

I understand your concern COMPLETELY.. I few years ago I was teaching a trimix CCR class, we were about 2 hours or so into deco just resting on the bottom at 6m (this was a shore dive), One of my students was completely motionless, I quickly swam over (I though my heart was going to bust out of my chest) and he was just meditating.. From that dive on I made it cear to my students, That I always want to see something moving, like theire fingers or slow arm movements.. If I dont see them keep somewaht active, I will annoy them until they do..

Absolutely. This would help in more situations I think.

I have started a second poll regarding a back mounted display system here: http://www.rebreatherworld.com/gener...ay-system.html

Re: POLL: 2-way Heads Up Display. Would do you think?

I didn't vote as I think the idea is neither excellent nor bad.
Just sorta pointless, I agree with Joe that second display on the
back of the unit makes more sense.

Doesn't have to be a full LCD readout as the Ouroboros has,
simple LEDs would do.

People always comment that they can easily see the reflection of my HUD off my mask. When the blue light is on it lights the whole cave!

Didnt the CIS have buddy lights ontop of the unit?

Yes, two lights on top of the box.
The Ouroboros has both LED lights repeated from HUD and LCD setpoint display.

Same with the PRISM, easy to see what the unit is doing with the reflection in the mask.

Cheers

Either that or you mount it the wrong way.

Re: POLL: 2-way Heads Up Display. Would do you think?

I guess it's a nice idea...but it would not be a deal breaker for me.

At the end of the day knowing the unit is on setpoint or otherwise doesn't tell you if the diver has malfunctioned. In any circumstance where it really mattered you need to be having a more interactive experience with your buddy anyway. In this case having the light might even lead to a false conclusion everything is fine.

Cheers

Re: POLL: 2-way Heads Up Display. Would do you think?

For team diving it makes sense, but the unit would have to be a back mounted type, sim. to the the boris.

So many people are diving alone these days, i could take it or leave it.
