![]() | Re: simple HUD Nick, I completely agree with you. IMHO Huds should be least complicated as possible. The most important thing should be that when the ppo2 is no longer in the setpoint region 1.1 - 1.35 in my case the lights that flicker should be easily defined. Following is the code I use for my own HUD. >.71 quick flashing blue + buzzer ( verylow setpoint ) .71 - 1.0 slow flash blue ( low setpoint ) 1.0 - 1.2 slow green flash 4 seconds with blue flicker when off 1.2 - 1.35 slow green flash 4 seconds ( setpoint ) 1.35 - 1.45 slow green flash 4 seconds with red flicker when off ( high set ) 1.45 - 1.6 quick flashing red ( very high set ) > 1.6 quick flashing red + buzzer ( dangerous high setpoint ) This hud I made myself beceause the ones around found them too highly priced. I utilised picaxe microcontrollers which are very easy to work with. In my opinion the most difficult part was making the watertight container, otherwise the electronics are easy to master. In fact I was and still am a complete idiot in electronics. Whoever is capable of making his own simple displays is capable of building a hud. Nice safe diving Joseph |

Onto this is overlaid a change in colour to indicate urgency, and a change in flash speed to indicate extreme urgency - thats it! Oh - and three independant channels ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: simple HUD Wow, all points of the compass. I have Richards HUD system. http://insane.bug-e.net/Puffer/PPO2/index.html (you can see the original code sequence here) I asked for it to match my regular set point of 1.3 CCR setpoints: 0.0 < PPO2 < 0.4 : buzzer + solid red light 0.4 < PPO2 < 0.6 : buzzer + fast flashing red light 0.6 < PPO2 < 0.8 : fast flashing red light 0.8 < PPO2 < 1.0 : slow flashing red light 1.0 < PPO2 < 1.2 : slow flashing green light 1.2 < PPO2 < 1.4 : solid green light 1.4 < PPO2 < 1.6 : fast flashing green light 1.6 < PPO2 < 2.+ : buzzer + alternating red/green flashing light Anything other than solid means I look at the handsets. Red or fast means do it sooner rather than later and the vibrater means do it now or go to sleep. (A bit melodramatic but hey it is my life) Without trying it I don't think I would like to be given my PPO2 via the HUD. I use it as an indicator. I carry one of my handset the whole dive anyway so it is very simple to just have a look to confirm what the PPO2 is before I take action. The vibrator is the best bit, sometimes I will have added some extra O2 and then inadvertently drop down a bit and the PPO2 will spike. I can see in the HUD that it is rising and I think "I will breath it down in a tick or two (and I take some fuller breaths) but occasionally the vibrator will go off and it brings me into instant action. A heavy thumb, DOH. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: simple HUD Anyway, for FYI, I found out that the "Smithers Code" was incorporated into the US patent filed by Juergensen Marines. So was the vibrating HUD. Etc... So if I was to build HUD system myself, I wouldn't use the code unless I get permission from Juergensen Marines. YMMV if you are a manufacturer and try to sell products in/to the US with any of those features covered in the patent...
