![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Jim Haberski Hey everyone, It is with great sadness that I inform everyone of the death of Jim Haberski. Jim was involved in a car accident on December 2, which unfortunately left him brain dead, and he was taken off of life support on December 6, whereupon he passed away. It seems like I knew Jim forever - he was one of the "regulars" back in the very early days of CCR's and "internet diving". Many of you may remember him from his days at Dacor. He was a good guy, a straight shooter, and someone I always knew I could count on if I ever needed help. I taught him how to keep his CCR-1000 from killing him, and Jim taught me cold water ice diving one winter in Illinois. He started off the lesson by offering me $100 if I could keep my naked hands in the lake for 10 seconds... I lost that bet. When Jim had to have a hip replacement (due to too many blown deco's back when most guys didn't even know how to spell "Helium") he had to get out of diving, but turned his interest to his two passions - motorcycles and his girlfriend - (later wife), affectionately known by all of us as "Miss Joanie". I'm going to miss Jim. He was what I would call a "magnificent bastard" - a guy that was so full of life, and had done nearly everything - from a couple of tours of Viet Nam, to deep dives no one else would do - yet who didn't give a shit about making impressions on anyone. He was his own man, a good man, and my friend. For those of you who knew him, Miss Joanie is able to read e-mails sent to his old e-mail address. My dad once told me that the toughest thing about getting older is that you start attending more funerals than weddings. He was right. We've all said goodbye to too many of our friends this year. Hug the ones you love, and keep them close. I hope wherever Jim is now he is drinking that awful Captain Morgans and telling dirty jokes to his buddies that went before him. All the best, Kevin Juergensen |
