Catalina S6 0.9litre 207bar

Santa gave me a fire-retardent suit for Xmas so I thought I might give it a whirl.

I have been thinking of using the above tanks.
81.4mm diametre 274mm long (no valve) 0.9l and 207 bar rated.(6 CFt)

That isn't alot of gas 186 litres (or 207 litres @ 230 bar )

Their use would be for recreational dives 30m's and up. To make the rig lighter and narrower. ( I would put them underneath instead of on the sides.)
I would always dive them with adeqwuate bailout.

Anyone using something similar?
How are you 2 litre boys and girls finding them.?

What happened? Did someone give you a pair of "Spare Aire"s for
Christmas??

Sorry, mate, just couldn't resist that one!

Re: Catalina S6 0.9litre 207bar

Why bother?
Recreational diving I assume means open water? So you're not trying to fit through any small holes, so what advantage does the smaller profile give you?
Especially if you are serious about carrying offboard bailout, you now have your unit PLUS a sling for a rec dive where previously you would just have had your onboard 3ls. So it's actually a larger and more complex total package...

Diving dry, I'm using around 150l of dil on a dive (then again, my boyancy is still shit) so it get's a bit marginal unless you use your offboard for suit inflation.

If you really want a smaller package and to carry a sling, why not just use a single stumpy 2l onboard for O2, and use your sling for dil + wing + drysuit?

Every day, every day.
I gues I have always wanted a unit that is narrower and I thought this might do the trick and it would if only I could cram (safely) 600 litres of gas in there.

JDZ uses some short 1.5 litres tanks connected under his dolphin shell and it is about the same length as mine but considerably narrower.

Oh well I guess I will stick with the "Wide BOD" at least until Steve formalises his MultiMeg.

It might be nice as a spare O2 tank for off-board plug in.
or to get around the Non-depth compensating reg on the KISS valve.

I will keep dreaming.

PS Mike it would be toooo lop-sided with the normal O2 but no diluent tank, but granted, it would be narrower.

I meant mounting the single tank below your unit, not on the side where it is now So you'd have no tanks on the sides...

ie - give you the benefit of narrowness that you are after, without adding height as (I assume) would fit in the space where your unit has it's 'feet/foot' currently.

Re: Catalina S6 0.9litre 207bar

Hey Mike, thanks for the clarification, DOH sorry.
The Faber 3l with valve and reg and hoses, mounted along the bottom make it nearly as wide as it is with both on the side. Nearly.
On the way home just now a Grassy mentioned having both O2 and Diluent as off-board side slung, leaving the unit narrower but still having the capacity.

I might have a fiddle and see if my hoses etc can manage it.
Thanks Grass-a-roonie.
