Diving OC

I did an open circuit dive on the weekend. It was shit. I was up and down and all over the place. This was a shame because it was a nice dive site spoiled by bubbles and me getting cold. I’m not sure if the Dutch backpacker on the boat was diving OC or CC but she did have an excellent set of OTS lungs.

Has anyone else had to do an OC dive after diving CC for ages?

Re: Diving OC

Why yes I have and I had the same experience as you. My buoyancy was shit and I was cold! The dive site was a new one and I had to go back the next weekend to really enjoy it

Re: Diving OC

See JDZ, I told you it wasn't just me being crap.

I did the Cavern / Sink Hole courses at Mt Gambier with JDZ and I don't dive OC any more (unless you count Bailout). The bar is certainly a little higher for CDAA courses than an OC pleasure dive but man was I working hard to keep my act together for the first few dives.

OC is for emergencies.
Even better still is a BOB.

Re: Diving OC

Well I did a scallop dive on OC on Monday and it was grouse.

I loved throwing the little 50cf tank attached to my travel BP and wing on my back and having a really easy dive without any clutter and extra paraphenalia that comes with Rbs.

Buoyancy was fine...it's like riding a bike.

Re: Diving OC

But Underwaterbear, with your unit being away so much I am not sure you dive anthing but OC.
But yes diving a single on a BP and wing is so simple and streamlined it does feel like utter freedom.
That was not the case for the courses though.

Re: Diving OC

You guys are like that boring nerd at a dinner party, who has one joke that wasn't funny to start with, and tells it really badly anyway. Then when another sycophantic dipshit laughs, goes on telling the same joke over and over again.

She certainly did have a rather nice set of lungs. Must say, I haven't had to try as hard as I did on Monday to stop myself LOL for a long time...

Dutch Backpacker "I'm having buoyancy problems"
Steve "Thats coz you have very large lungs"
Dutch Backpacker "No I don't, he breathes more than me"
CD "I've got to go away now before I laugh really really loudly and you have a think about what Steve has just said"

Re: Diving OC

Diving OC is just scary... Last week, Shark Point (~25m for you OS types) and only a photo mad buddy to back up. So, just me and the tank. And I'm merrily traipsing off to Queensland and Vanuatu this Xmas... all OC. The buoyancy thing was fine though.
