Re: Diving OC

Well I'm far from experienced but seeing as I've not yet dived my CCR below 30mtrs but have OC dived far beyond that I feel I can comment on this...

During my relearning everythings about diving dives on CCR since my course I have felt the following pro's and con's about shallow Rebreather use-

Pros-

Can do multiple dives without have to strip down and fill tanks, a real PITA on OC.

Doesn't seem so susceptible to low air temp as OC

Lighter than OC kit on my back (a big plus)

Do not have to deal with dive site air monkey's cooking my tanks to within an inch of their test pressures/making them so hot I can't carry them without burning myself!

All assembly/strip down can be done in advance/afterwards when I am at home in the warm and dry and sitting on carpet (rather than kneeling on gravel) and with the TV on

Seriously- much safer place to practice newly learnt bailout skills than below 30mtrs!

Cons-
Expensive way to do two 20mtr pootles a day if OC buddies wimp out because its abit cold.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone...

BEN

Unhappy Re: Diving OC

Hey guys,

I'm jealous of you guys!!!!! I've no option, I need dive OC often when I'm teaching cave courses.
When I teach Adv. Nitrox or any higher level I teach the first and second day on O/C to demonstrate the skills and after that (if the students are ok with the skills) I switch to CCR.

Cheers,

Re: Diving OC

Simple solution to crap buoyancy control whether OC or CC:

always fight your way to be in front, best way to get good vis

It's worked for me for years.
