Valve Types

Greetings,

We are trying to locate different valves for rebreather use. There are a variety of valves being used but we would like to start to stock the ones you folks really want. If you would please send us a photo of the valve you use on your units. And if you know the maker.

Hi Joe-

The biggest challenge for many folks seems to be finding left hand versions of common valves. All the big guys make them (OMS, Thermo, etc.) but finding stocking dealers can be tough, especially w/ the more obscure tank threads like used by the Luxfer 300 bar tanks.

After years of OC diving I’ve got a basement full of bottles & valves that are all RH except for those on manifolds. When setting up a new pair of Rebreather tanks, I’m faced w/ decision whether to break up another manifold & try to ebay the isolator and individual bottles, or order and wait for a new LH valve, and sell the doubles as a unit. Having a ready source of LH valves would make that decision easier.

The valves for the Inspiro are nice and clean.

Ken, we have full stock of Left and Right Thermo valves there is no shortage of those. The only issue with those valves is that they are made for H and Cross overs and have that other portion to them that the Rebreather may not need.

We are also bringing in the Left and Right SOS valves (OMS gets those too) we should have those in January.

We are also working on a Pillar Valve that has a knob on the top and a single outlet that lets you put it where you want -- the only issue i see with that is mounting bottles upside down -- its great for horizonal mounting like on the Draeger and Azzimuth.

The valve that is on the Luxfer 300 bar hoop is the 7/8's 14 thread and we have those as well. OR are you looking at the M18 and M25 thread ?

An Inspiration compatable valve at a fair price would be nice...

Inspo, evo and PRISM all use a similar valve where the knob is opposite the DIN orifice. Therefore they can be used on either side, you don't need a 'handed' valve.

TD Preece (Aust) is one source for them, however they seem unenthusiastic about supplying. There is at least one other manufacturor (Alpha diving have them) who makes a valve in this configuration. I'm actually waiting on a call back from someone with a clue after dropping in at Alpha this morning. (They only had this valve with a tapered thread, not 3/4 NSPM)

Sea Hornet supplies these valves as well.. I have used them since about 2000.. The only problem is that these valves are slighlty too high in profile (from base of valve to knob) .. On a stock inspiration, the valves come down too far by about 1/4 inch or so, it requires rounding of the case (or getting cylinders with shorter necks) at the valve opening

If you look at the AP valves the US with burst disk is the same size as the euro version without burst disk... The valves you speak about have the burst disk located towards the neck..

Last time I purchased them (about 1 year ago) from a dive shop online, it cost me $45 US including shipping from down under..
