Cheap, dinky little first stages...

I've seen these little tiny first stages for sale in a number of places, mainly sold on the premise of being used in a suit inflation system. Now, I'm assuming that a reg so small will not have particularly good characteristics if you tried to breathe off it, but does anyone see a problem with getting one, O2 cleaning it and using it for O2 (or perhaps dil of there's no OC fitted)?

Will you ever stop how light do you want your unit

I would wonder how reliable they would be?

Re: Cheap, dinky little first stages...

Is there a published flow rate and Interstage pressure?

Is it adjustable and if so, between what ranges?

Also, does it have enough ports?

Re: Cheap, dinky little first stages...

Ive seen a few in action now. They look sexy as hell, apart that is from the inordinate ammount I've seen that leaked! 9/10 seem to bubble.

If you want simple/reliable, I'd go for a DS4.

Re: Cheap, dinky little first stages...

I've found this link to a manufacturers site. Can't speak Italian so can't translate it...
"Il primo stadio F5 è il più piccolo riduttore di pressione a pistone al mondo. Completamente in ottone cromato con due uscite di bassa pressione contrapposte 3/8”-24UNF e attacco DIN 200 bar. Disponibile in versione ARGON o per miscele ossigeno-arricchite. "

Although I don't understand a word of it, I do see 3/8"-24UNF, which is the thread of a LP port, no mention of any other thread sizes, so I think they might not have a HP port? Meaning that the 2 ports on there are LP ones...

Although you only need one LP port (you can get a "T" and fit a OPV on the opposite arm to the hose. =hose=T=opv= )

Re: Cheap, dinky little first stages...

Found some more technical data that looks like they can have an IP of 6-8bar...

I also read (from using Babel fish):
" The distributing F5 is a reducer of pressure micro to piston. Completely in brass chromium plateed with two escapes of low pressure contrapposte 3/8"UNF and attack DIN Ossigeno/Argon. Escape of DEVOUT: from 6 to 8 Bars Employment: dumb ideal as it arranges of connection for watertight the Optional: valvolina overpressure "

So it does indeed look like it only has 2 LP ports, and no HP side.

Maybe minimal use then in the big scheme of things - I may still get one and replace the Apeks (US1) reg I have on my suit inflate, and re-commision that for O2 use instead.

Haha. just read back that translation in full - there's some great literal translations in there - I particularly like the "dumb ideal", whatever that is!

Beanie,

Dear dear Beanie.

We need 3.

LP - to feed the manifold that feeds the solenoind
HP - the gauge my boy, the gauge!
Plus the OPV!
