| Proper Boffin ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Experiences taking Sofnoline with Monarch airlines... Hi, Travelling to Sharm next weekend for a week of diving, and want to take some Sofnolime after the cock-up that there was last time I went out there (and the damn expense of the stuff over there) I've taken my unit out there a few times before, so have no problem with that, but have never tried checking in Sofnoline. What are peoples experiences with Monarch Airlines in particular as that is who I am travelling with. Any suggestions for how to package the lime - I could put it in small containers and put in in with my unit, or should I just openly check in a keg? I'd be a little worried if a keg would make it to the other end, as it'd be obvious to any theif-type what it was? Any advice/suggestions appreciated. Simon |

Hi Simon, I have no experience with Monarch but I have often shipped Sofnolime in 2 litre Coke bottles. Easy to put in hand luggage as well. Just make sure you have the Transport Declaration and Data Sheet for Sofnolime available here: http://www.ambientpressurediving.co.uk/manual.htm Cheers, Dave Cooper.

Quote: Monarch will give 10kgs free and you can buy an extra 20kgs for 30 quid, at least you could last time I flew with them Not sure about that Dave - wasn't that Britannia? We had no problems with SpheraSorb earlier this year - even taking some 1kg pouches in our coat pockets. I wouldn't rely on the smile and turn up early approaches, Natasha and I got stuffed for an extra £320 going to Sharm in February this year. I think the check-in staff for Monarch and other charter airlines have been told to enforce the regulations / screw you for as much as they can and it'll be between £6 and £8 per extra kilo. Have fun, Robert |

| Rebreather World Writer ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Experiences taking Sofnoline with Monarch airlines... From the Monarch Website: baggage baggage allowance
All excess hold baggage will incur a charge of GBP4.0 / EUR6 per extra kilogram. Please note that the maximum baggage weight that will be accepted at any of our UK airports is 32kg (70lb). Any bag weighing more than this will not be accepted at check-in. This restriction has been brought into place by the Airport Authorities following consultation with airlines, handling companies and unions to help reduce the manual handling injuries amongst airport staff. Sports equipment (including golf clubs, bicycles, skis, bowls and diving equipment) up to a weight of 13kg is subject to the fee of £10 / 15 euros per person, per flight. Your normal hold (20kg) and hand (10kg) baggage allowances are separate and not affected. If you do not have any hold luggage your sports equipment can take up your free hold baggage allowance (up to 20kg). This sports equipment fee is only applicable to bookings made on or after 13 September 2005. Any sports equipment weighing more than 13kg will be subject to excess baggage charges of £4 / 6 euros per kg as normal. All sports equipment is also carried subject to load and space available. Fees can be paid when you make your booking online, or at the airport (after you have checked in) at the Monarch Scheduled ticket desk.

I rang monarch and asked about this "13kg for sports equipment" and was told that that only applies to scheduled flights, not charter flights. So it looks like I've only got the allowance of 25kg + 5kg that Tony Backhurst arrange... Smiles it is then... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() :ra zz:![]() |
